After starting a new job we didn’t have much time to spend together so Grant said he was taking a day off when I had my days off and we were going to go fishing at Seven Sister’s falls ( a beautiful place in Manitoba). He got up early and made a picnic lunch and we were off. He seemed a little off that morning but I thought maybe it was due to the early hour we were up and off. We got out there and he suggested we just walk down to the rocks and take a look and pick a fishing spot. So we went down to take a look. It was a beautiful place by trees, water, little water falls and big rocks. I was taking pictures of this beautiful site when out of the corner of my eye I saw what I thought was Grant falling and turned quickly to see him down on one knee with ring in his hand. He asked me to marry him to which I replied “Omg are you kidding me.” Followed by a quick “YES”. I couldn’t imagine a better and more romantic way for him to propose. The day is coming up quickly in May 2011 and I am so excited for the day I become his wife!!!

The lovely day…started when my Marco woke me up quite early on his birthday insisting he was hungry and wanted to go for breakfast. When he wants to eat he gets really cranky so I hopped out of bed to get ready. I had already planned a day of surprises for him but it would me that ended up being completely surprised.

We had moved into a new condo and sometimes the odd piece of mail would get sent to our old place which always made me sooo mad. As we were leaving for breakfast he told me the new owner had texted him that they had a piece of mail so before breakfast we’d pick it up.

We went upstairs and they opened the door and I thought soemthing was a little off when she went to get the letter I turned back to Marco and he was down on one knee in the doorway and looked like he was going to be sick. I asked if he was okay? I thought he’d hurt his knee. He pulled out the most beautiful ring and said this was the first place he’d ever seen my lovely face (in the doorway of my old condo) and he that day he’d known he’d spend his life with me. He cried I cried, the owners of the condo came out and congratulated us!

From there we had breakfast, a couples massage. movie and a beautiful dinner! What a perfect day!

May it will happen and I really couldn’t be happier. Kelly.

My fiance Dan & I have been best friends for 10 years and dating for the last 7. Last year we went to Cuba twice. For our 2nd trip we went with some friends and on our last night there the four of us went into town to a little restaurant for a nice dinner. Afterwards there was a horse & carriage waiting outside which took us on a tour around the city at night. When we returned to our resort our friends disappeared to their room so we went for a walk down towards the beach and that’s where he took the ring out of his pocket and asked me to be his wife!!! I was completely 100% surprised! I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose! He left me completely speechless (which is not a common occurance lol)

Christmas Eve. 2001. I was thirteen years old. My parents piled my brother, sister and I into the blue minivan to go to my Aunt Joyce’s house for a party.

As soon as we arrived to the party, my cousin, Lucrezia, and I rushed up to her room to talk about boys. We ran up the stairs. My little sister, Justine, followed. She always wanted to hang out with the older girls.

I walked into Lucrezia’s room and noticed pictures of her and her friends plastered over every inch of her room; on the wall, on her mirrors, framed on tables. Everywhere! But I only spotted one. Beside her t.v. rested a 3D cube-shaped frame, with fuzzy zebra fur. On one of the sides of the cube, I detected a picture of her and a boy standing on the driveway of her house, “who is that?!”

“Oh that’s just my friend, Anthony,” she remarked. “Do you want to call him?”

    So we did.

That small moment started the rest of my life. From that phone call grew a friendship. We drifted apart for a few years. Then, when I was seventeen years old, Anthony called. He asked me to go out for coffee, as friends. We were both recently single at the time. So we decided to go out that night. A coffee couldn’t hurt, right?

    ****

“Let’s listen to some romantic music on the way,” Anthony controlled the steering of his BMW as he grabbed out his iphone and selected the “romantic playlist,” he had downloaded in advance. He had been planning this “Christmas dinner” for weeks. Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Corner House restaurant, Toronto.

Song after song played as we neared the restaurant. We were getting into a romantic mood. I noticed Anthony held the steering wheel with both hands–which he never does, and his shoulders tensely reached his ears.

“We’re here.” He parked the car. We walked up to the quaint little house. I was impressed.

“Excuse me,” he adressed the waitress. “Can I speak to the chef Herbert, please?”

She went to get the chef. As soon as he saw Anthony, he smiled.

    “We are here.” Anthony proclaimed.

The chef instructed the waitress to bring us to a certian table and she lead us upstairs into a private room. I couldn’t believe how much effort Anthony had put into this Christmas dinner.

I glanced through the menu, “Mmm, lamb! That’s what I want to eat! But it’s kind of expensive, is that okay?” I looked up at Anthony.

“You can have anything you want.”

My succulent lamb arrived paired with a sweet potato pie and some vegetables. Anthony ate Salmon with rice and vegetables. I devoured the whole meal. We sipped red wine. Anthony kept glancing over his shoulder at the waitress everytime he heard footsteps. He had trouble concentrating on me or developing any topics of conversation. He wasn’t himself.

“I have a surprise for dessert.” Anthony hinted.

“Oh what’d you do? Order my favourite dessert ahead of time?” I giggled sacrcastically.

Antother couple entered the room and the waitress seated them at the table right next to us. Anthony looked angry at this.

Moments later the waitress walked in again, only this time she held a dessert plate with a lid in one hand, and a long white box in the other. She placed them both infront of Anthony.

“What’s going on? I didn’t know we were exchanging Christmas gifts tonight!” I looked confused.

“I just wanted to make tonight special.” He opened the long white box and pulled out a yellow rose. “This rose represents our past and how we shared a friendship at a young age.” He placed it infront of me and pulled out a red rose. “This rose represents our six and half year relationship and how in love we are.” He placed it infront of me and pulled out a white rose. “This rose represents our future….wait a minute,” He then pulled the lid off the dessert plate. A white place with a piece of pannacotta and fruit was framed with chocolate writing asking me, “Will you marry me?” He then dug into his pocket and pulled out a box.

“Oh my God this is really happening!!!” I put my hands over my face. By the time I pulled my hands off my face I saw Anthony kneeling infront of me.

“Do your thing.” The lady next to us encouraged him.

“Jacqueline, I am so in love with you. We have been together for a long time and I really want to be with you forever. Will you marry me!”

“Yes!!!!” I froze in shock. He slid the 3 karat ring on my finger and kissed me.

He went back to his seat across from me. I followed him because I wanted to sit next to him.

The couple next to us congratulated us as the staff poured into the room showering us with champagne and a bouquet of flowers.

We called both of our parents in excitement and told them it happened. Even though they had been keeping this secret from me for months.

I thought back to being seventeen years old and how Anthony asked me out for coffee, as friends. A coffee couldn’t hurt, right?

    The Proposal

Mw best friend, and now fiance, Jason got to the heart of the matter (the proposal) by using our cat, Shadow, as his ‘partner’…

It was October 15th, 2010…just before midnight..

Jason called me from the back door, “T, Come quick! Look at the cat!” he said, so me thinking that something was wrong, ran into the dark hallway to see Shadow, stopped, and meowing… on her chest was a bright red flashing light, and I immediately said “What the ___ is that?!?”

Jason said something along the lines of “I dunno, let’s go see!”, as Shadow, being Shadow, had already bolted for the bedroom…

So we followed her, to find her laying on her little bed, happy as can be, purring (aka. luring me in). I turned the lights on to see she was wearing a new reflective kitty coller and a red heart-shaped plastic bauble on her chest…(awww!)

Immediately, my eyes welled up, “Oh JJ, you bought Shadow a necklace! Ahhh you are sooooo sweet!” Jason laughing replied “Well, you should go look at it” .

Turns out the little heart’s light is motion-sensored, I found the on-off switch right away..I was talking about how great it was, when Jason said “T, look at it again…”

And I was like, well, ok…So I looked down at the little heart (still in awe) and turned it over…and on the backside, was a little heart-shaped sticker that had Jason’s print on in…

    And it said MARRY ME

I do not have the words to tell you how that little sticker has propelled me into a blissful state of happiness , awe and excitment for the next stage of our lives… I feel so blessed, so happy, and so damn lucky…And the best thing is, he feels the exact same way…

First, I’d like to say THANK YOU to Heike, Fred, and their son Nik. These three lovely friends were co-conspirators in the most beautiful day of my life!

Nik Spohr and I became friends in high school. We often spent our lunch hour with some friends at the Spohr’s place, a few blocks away from the school. Not long afterwards, Seth (my fiance) moved to Milton and also became friends with Nik. Seth and I met a few times at the Spohr’s and at the school. He told me later that he once had overheard me say “Heike, you have a beautiful garden here… One day, when someone decides to propose to me, I hope it is in this garden”.

In May this year, Seth told me that Fred and Heike were having a small wedding anniversary celebration on Sunday, May 30th in their garden at sunset. There was one other thing – we’d have to stop at a florist on the way into Milton to buy a single red rose. Seth told me that this was a thing that Nik did for his mom every year on his parents’ wedding anniversary but Nik was working that night and unable to make the party so he asked if we could bring the rose for him. Since we needed to stop to buy a bottle of wine (I hate arriving empty-handed) I agreed, and picked out the nicest rose I could find.

When we arrived at the Spohr residence I was a little confused to see little to no cars parked out front. Coming to the door, I was greeted and invited into an empty house. After wishing Fred a “Happy Anniversary”, I was directed to the backyard where I immediately spotted a table set for two inside a wrought iron gazebo covered with rose vines and beautiful pink roses. Seth pulled me over to the table, sat me down, gave me the single red rose, bent onto one knee, pulled a small silver box from his pocket, and asked me to marry him.

Of course, I said “YES!” After a little bit of crying and laughing and hugging, Fred (our waiter for the night) came out to announce he evening’s menu. Candles were lit and as the sun set, Seth and I enjoyed our delicious first meal as an engaged couple. Fred and Heike had spent the time to plan and deliver a five course meal with complementary wines for each course.

The whole night was a dream and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect and romantic proposal. Thank you again, Spohr family and kudos to Seth for planning for 5 years and still pulling it off!

My Fiance, Derek and I have been together for 2 1/2 years. We have been talking about marriage for abour 5 months. Derek had plans to proposed to me early June of this year, but this May my world was turned upside down. My best friend, my mother was diagnosed with pancreotic cancer. Ofcourse, the engagement was the last thing on our mind. My mom deteriorated quickly, and before we knew it, she was hospitalized with no intent of comming home. I never knew how much my mom loved Derek, until she got sick. Every night when he went to leave the hospital she would give him a huge hug and tell him how much he loved him. One night she took him aside and told him how much she cared for him and asked her to promise her that he would take care of me. He told her that she wouldn’t have to worry, and that he was buying a ring for me. I was waiting outside of the hospital room for him and all I could hear is her gasp so loudly and when I came in she had a huge smile on her face. I had no clue what was going on, but was so happy to see her so excited about something, with the hell she was going through. Two days later, at the hospital, I was sitting on the edge of my mom’s bed, Derek came over, pulled the ring out of his pocket and said, “Oh, look what I found”. My mom was extatic! I don’t think I ever seen her so happy. Even with how sick she was, she had to call everyone she knew.
20 days after the engagement my mom passed away. Knowing how happy she was that day brings me some comfort in my upsidedown world.

The Proposal – Central Park New York, New York September 30th, 2010

I was in New York for our yearly sales conference which always ends up being a hectic week in between meetings and evening events. As the week concludes the only thing you can hope for is good weather so you make it back to Toronto without any delays.
Unfortunately when September 30th came around (the day to go home) Tropical Storm Nicole hit the city which was causing numerous cancellations and delays out of La Guardia with the excessive wind and rain. I was determined to sneak out of the meetings to catch an earlier flight before the weather got worse.
With that in mind a few of us packed up and headed toward the airport. A co-worker of mine was in contact with others who were already at the airport. They told us they were being re-routed to Montreal and that the chances of us getting home tonight were slim. For anyone who has been to La Guardia knows that it is not the place you want to spend hours waiting at so my friend had the idea to go into the city to have a few drinks and a bite to eat to help pass the time. I was a bit displeased as I still had a bit of hope that somehow I would get on a flight but followed the group!
After being stuck in traffic we arrived at Columbus Circle where we decided that it would be a good spot to get out and walk to a restaurant. Our driver pulled up on the side of the road where I got out and tried to open the trunk to get my suitcase. The trunk was locked and my co-workers were already walking ahead briskly and muttering something about the driver not being able to do drop offs here so we had to meet him on the other side of the circle. Boy was this getting stupid I thought!
I started walking and caught up to one of my co-workers who was also trailing behind. We walked for a few minutes until I heard my name being called; “Chelsea”, “Chelsea” – I looked to my left and there was Paul standing in front of the Christopher Columbus statue with a dozen red roses and wearing my favorite shirt of his! I was shocked and felt a bit disoriented as he wasn’t supposed to be here – I’m in New York I’m thinking not Toronto! But after the initial shock wore off I knew why he was there.
He took me by my hand and we walked into Central Park. My memory from here is a bit of a blur… I recall bits of our conversation and me asking over and over “What are you doing here?!”. His response was minimal until we got to the Bow Bridge.
He got out a letter he had prepared and read it to me. It was so perfect and he even attached a picture of our dogs that he had taken that morning before he left as they could not make the trip. He opened the box and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I instantly said YES!! I was so surprised and once the ring was on my finger I could not take my eyes of it! It was so beautiful!
After the proposal we went and ate at the Porter House restaurant that overlooked Central Park and then enjoyed the city for a few hours, grabbed a taxi and flew back to Toronto! What a crazy but yet amazing day! Waking up that morning I had no idea what was in store for me!
I was so surprised and for anyone that knows me (even slightly) knows that I need to be in control of everything or at least have a grasp of what’s going on. The fact that he was able to pull this whole thing off – flying in to New York City, arriving safely during the storm (which later I found out was terrifying and one of the last flights to arrive in NYC that day), coordinating the whole event with my work/co-workers weeks before without me having any inkling whatsoever is incredible. All these obstacles were able to be pulled off which shows we are truly meant to be!
I always knew he loved me a lot but the proposal went beyond anything I ever imagined or dreamed of as a little girl! I am so happy to have Paul as my fiancé and cannot wait until our Wedding Day: September 17th, 2011!

    Enchanted

On Tuesday, December 22, 2009, Andrew asked me to see if I could take the next afternoon off work. He said that he wanted to enjoy the nice weather before he goes back to work, and it was the only day we would have the opportunity to. He said, “I’ll plan something…” mentioning that we would take a walk.
That got me thinking…made me a little bit giddy…and also got me wishing that I wasn’t so suspicious. Anyways, I excitedly asked for the day off, and my wonderful boss, who understood my giddiness, agreed. That night, I didn’t sleep much and then realized how unfair it was to Andrew to let my imagination dream up the possibilities and how ‘the walk’ would end. I tried my best to calm my thoughts and sleep.
The next day, Andrew met me at my house at noon. After asking, “So…a walk at Aldergrove Lake?”, he said, “Nope…we’re going quadding!”…that got me excited and threw all of my ‘dreaming’ the night before out the window…I loved that.
We drove up to Stave Lake where we spent an hour or so of quadding and enjoying the muddy fields and beautiful skies. We took some time to take photos and got some great ones of us with the beautiful Stave Lake backdrop. After some time, Andrew drove us up to Sayers Lake on the quad. Once we were at the lake, he parked and said, “I another surprise…We’re going canoeing!” As excited as I was, I couldn’t figure out how we were going to do that since we drove up on the quad. Little did I know that Andrew has already hidden a canoe in the woods. We launched the canoe and started across the lake. In my head, I was thinking, “He’s going to get me into the middle and ask me there…” but was I in for a bigger surprise…
As we paddled, I noticed a flame near the entrance to our favourite camping spot. I couldn’t figure out what it was, or why it was there. Andrew suggested we check it out. As we got closer, I noticed more and more flames but still couldn’t figure out where it was all coming from. Little did I know that Andrew was grinning behind me in the canoe. It didn’t take long for that grin to reach my face and tears to form in my eyes as I realized that the forest was lit with candles and tiki torches. I turned around crying and told him to paddle faster!
Once we reached the opening to the forest, he helped me out and we walked up a path lined with candles leading up to an enchanted set up of a campfire, Christmas tree and lights, stumps with fake snow and tea-lites, and a table made to look snow-covered. On the table sat a thermos of hot chocolate, a gift, and an ipod with worship music playing through it. He sat me down and as I tried to take in everything, he brought me what was placed on the table. I opened the gift to find a beautiful scrapbook of our 4 years together including the note he wrote me for our first Valentine’s day and photos of our outdoor adventures. The book concluded with a note from Andrew saying, ‘The past four years have only been an introduction to a life long journey that I want to call ‘Our Story’.’
After this, and more tears, he said that he had one more gift. He handed me some tissue and pulled a wrapped box out of this cracker-box disguise. I unwrapped this gift and opened a box to find a beautiful diamond heart inside. I lifted the lift of the heart to find a ring.
The vision of it caused me to gasp, smile, sob, and stare. As he sat beside me, he asked me, “Will you marry me?” He then proceeded to get on one knee, take the ring from me, check which hand was the left one, only to realize that I hadn’t answered yet. He looked at me worried… “No?…”…it was then that I realized he had actually asked me and he needed to hear the answer. I said, “Of course!!!!!”
He put the ring on my finger and we then proceeded to celebrate, take photos, eat cheesecake, drink hot chocolate, and ‘ooo’ and ‘ahhh’ at the amazing plan that was pulled off.
Even as I write this I am crying because it just makes me realize all over again how loved, how blessed I am that such an amazing man would go through the trouble he did and so desire to spend the rest of his life with me. Wow! Not only that, but I will be the first to admit that my imagination ruins things and it is hard to surprise me. Andrew surprised me with every adventure he pulled out of his bag, and completely amazed me with the intricate details and planning of this one afternoon.
And now, with this amazing story to start with, we begin to plan “Our Story” with all of its enchanted twists and turns. Again…Wow!

Ray and I have been together 14 years. I helped him raise his two daughters from his previous marriage and we had two sons of our own. For his birthday earlier this year I wrote memories of our life together on post it notes and plastered them all over our walls. Remember that for later. On April 24 2010, I was getting ready for work and asked Ray to throw a lunch together for me. He said he and our boys would bring me something and have lunch with me so I said I would let him know when my lunch break was and off I went to work. At noon I looked up and there he was to take me to lunch and that I would not be returning to work. I laughed at him and said to my manager He says I’m not coming back, she waved and said goodbye. Totally shocked we left and he said we were going to have a day to ourselves. He said the post it notes inspired him to create another memory for another post it note. We decided to go to Niagra Falls and Wine country and be tourists. We had a great time watching a ship go through a lock in St Catherines, wine tasting, site seeing and hitting Clifton Hill. Ray was trying hard to get me on the huge ferris wheel and always does when we go to the falls but I wasn’t biting as usual. He made many romantic suggestions: The falls, the tower, but I was tired and wasn’t interested. We went for dinner and finally I agreed to his last ditch effort to get me on the ferris wheel. He popped the question on the ferris wheel. I didn’t even know what he was saying because I was trying to get excited for him and pointing out sites and listening to the info on the speakers. He got my attention and I said yes. We get married spring 2011 on our 15th anniversary.

  • Christine says:

Richard and I have been together 11 years. That’s right high school sweethearts! He always joked that he had a 10 year plan for us and nothing would happen before the 10 years was up. Well, our engagement day was not without drama. I woke up on the morning with terrible neck and back pain while staying with my parents back home. The pain was so bad I was just going to stay in bed all day. Richard called bright and early that morning to see if I would like to go out for lunch as we were heading back home the next day. I really didn’t want to but he convinced me. So he came to my parents and picked me up and off we went. Should have known something was up as he let me order whatever I wanted without comment or debate! After lunch he wanted to head to his moms office to say hi but before we could do that he wanted to stop at his favourite place, Tim Hortons! Well, we must have drove by 5 or 6 tim’s before I asked what we were doing. He then informed me he wanted to go for a walk, it’s December 31st I might add! I was not a happy girl at all, my back hurt it was cold, all I wanted to do was go home and relax. Well off we went to the local park for a walk, the park where we first started dating. We go down by the pond and he is very quiet, I turn around to see why he is so quiet and to my surprise he is down on one knee, in the snow I might add, asking me to marry him. I was in shock for a bit and then finally said yes! After that a woman who neither of us knew had seen it all happen and had so very nicely waited to walk her dog while it was happening and came over and gave us a great big hug and congratulations! It was the best day ever! Not to mention the last day before our 11 year anniversary!

  • Keira says:

we climbed to the top of our favorite mountain top park on a warm spring afternoon. Since it was officially our four year anniversary he asked me if he could take my picture and as I stood there with the city and ocean view below us he said “wait, first I have a present for you” I didnt realize that he was actually filming me and not just waiting to take a photo. As I opened the box, I found a smaller box and eventually found an engagement ring…..the same moment he dropped to one knee and nervously asked me to marry him! Of course I said something silly like “are you kidding???” at first, but I also said yes and dropped to the ground with him. We kissed and laughed and cried together.

Right after we kissed two huge bald eagles began circling above us ;)

  • Natalie says:

Dan and I knew each other in high school, we were part of a close group of friends, at the time I never knew he liked me, I always assumed we were just friends. After high school we lost touch, in 2005 we saw each other for the first time in years (at our kid’s daycare), at the time he was married, we didn’t see each other again until 2007, again at the daycare. At that time he was separated and we decided to meet up sometime to catch up. Our first official date was May 12, 2007 at which time he reveled that he always had a big crush on me.

Fast forward to May 14, 2010, it was our 3rd anniversary, this year I was suppose to plan our weekend (as the previous year he planned a surprise trip to Montreal). So I planned our surprised trip to Kingston. The Saturday morning we left, at which time he handed me a box of mint chocolates and a white rose then we headed to our first stop; a flying school, he always had a dream of being a pilot so I booked him an hour “Learn to Fly” session were he got the chance to fly a little cessna. After we left, I took him to Dairy Queen (as he loves ice cream), then we headed to Kingston (all the while he had no idea what was next). When we checked into our hotel (Kingston Best Western Fireside), I had reserved a suite that included a king sized bed, fireplace, hot tob, and a welcome basket of champange and chocolate covered strawberries. We spent the afternoon touring Kingston, had a really nice dinner. The next day, I took him down to the harbour where I had booked us a 3 hour sailing excusion (again another thing he has always wanted to do). After we were done we were getting ready to leave when he said he had something for me. He went to his suitcase and handed me a CD and said, you know our first Valentine together I brought you roses, chocolates and I made you a CD, so for our 3 years together I made you another CD, he told me to read all the songs before opening the case, they were all the songs that meant something to us throughout the years, but when I opened the case there was no CD but a ring. At which time, he got down on one knee and proposed, I was so happy. After I said yes he told me to look at the songs again, when I did the first letter of every song spelled ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME?”.

Now I cannot wait to marry my soul mate on August 20, 2011.

  • Amanda Wentworth says:

Jason always told me he would never propose when I expected it, when we went to Boston after Christmas to see my favorite Football Team I thought ok it is going to happen here, but nothing, then we drove over to NYC for New Years, again I thought for sure, but nothing!

A month or so later, the day before Valentine’s Day I woke up to a morning coffee, a box of chocolates and a lovely Valentine’s card, next to it were five envelopes that I couldn’t open until he left.
I was to open one per hour, each had sent me on the hunt for something from one of our past dates.
I was told to be dressed pretty and ready for 7pm.
I got all dressed up and the door bell rang at 7pm sharp, and a limo driver was at my door, I was smiling from ear to ear.

The driver took me to a coffee shop where we had our very first date, and there he was in a suit and tie with a red rose in his hand, he looked so handsome.

Jason got in and we kept driving, we ended up at Langdon Hall, an amazing resort where we had the most delicious dinner, our table was the only table with rose petals spread across it.
After dinner we took a walk into the ‘red room’ where there, was my final envelope, and I opened it and it said “Will you be my…….. ” I looked over at Jason and he was on one knee with the most amazing ring I had ever seen in his hand. I didn’t really pay attention to the ring, I jumped up and started to cry and hugged him for which seemed like an hour. He finally asked if it was a yes, he was soooo nervous.
I said “yes of course!” and finally put the ring on.
The drive home we had a bottle of champagne in the limo, and I felt so in love.

It was the most memorable night of my life.
I can’t wait to be his Wifey, hurry up April 2011

We were taking pictures of us all dressed up ready to go to my LAST Rec Gala (formal for my program). The first one we took was terrible, so I went back reset the timer and we took a good one. He said to me lets take one more just to be sure, so I went back to the camera and set the timer one more time. I went back to stand with him in the picture and like 2 seconds later he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Its awesome that we have a picture of the exact time it happened.

Well, it was the night when we celebrated David’s 24th birthday. We went to a bar and sang karaoke to one another. We had a lot of fun. Then we came home and as I went to the bathroom, he got the ring, in this case, I didn’t know!It was on May 16th at 12:25 am!
He told me to come to him in the living room. Now in our living room, when you look outside you can see Toronto on the horizon and you can see the whole city.A very beautiful sight especially in the night time! He got down on one knee and asked me! It felt like he was proposing in front of the whole world! And he made me feel very special!! I can’t wait to take his last name!

Les took me to the restaurant he took me to on prom night- the first year we went out (over 8 years ago) we have not been back since! we had a very nice dinner and he was playing with my promise ring (as he always does). i didn’t realize he had taken it off and went to the washroom with it. when he came back i asked for it back and he started freaking out that he couldn’t find it. he went back to the washroom to look and came back distressed and upset that he lost it and ruined a perfect night. we both left the restaurant a little bit down! on the way to the car he started digging around in his pocket, got all excited and said-I think i found the ring! he pulled it out of his pocket and it was the engagement ring-he then asked me to marry him and of course i said yes!

Aaron and I have been living together for almost 4 years now.We had met when I worked at this little Gift Store in Calgary and he was and is Head of Security at the building where the Gift Store is. Every now and then he would come in to see how things were going and we would chat a bit. I really enjoyed him coming in and I couldn’t wait for him to come by. As the days went by I kept wondering if he was ever going to ask me out. To make a long story short, I ended up asking him out. We started dating Jan 10,2007 and ended up moving into together Aug 15,2007. Things were going great until oneday we started talking about getting married. We had both been married before so I knew that this was going to be a big step for the both of us, wondering if we should take the plunge again. As the Months went by, the marriage thing kept popping up. We even looked at rings together. Then Christmas time came up and we didn’t have a proper tree. So I told him, ‘pick me up after work and we will go tree hunting.’ We didn’t want to get a real one because we live in a small apartment, and there isn’t much room for one. So we went to the local Mall were a Walmart is and found a nice artifical tree and purchased it. As we were leaving Walmart, Aaron said, ‘lets look around the mall a bit.’ We walked up one side of the mall, and at one point he tried to stir me into Peoples Jewelers. I had no idea what he was up to. I never thought he was going to do that. He likes surprising me. So we kept walking down the one side of the Mall and came back to Peoples and he took me inside. He said,’lets look around.’ As we were looking around, he took me over to the beautiful engagement rings, and we started looking at them. We came upone these two beautiful rings, and the gentleman there started helping us. Aaron asked me out of the two engament rings I was looking at, which one did I like. One of them was a Heart shaped ring that caught my eye. I wear a heart shaped necklace that Aaron gave me on our second Valentines together. Even some of the earing that Aaron gave me are heart shaped. When I told him that is the one I liked, he looked at the Guy and said’ We will take it.’ I did not know what to do…I just had this stunned look on my face and said, are you kidding me, did you just do what I think you did?’ All he did was smile and walked to the cashier and paid for it. I couldn’t believe it….I was in such shock. I couldn’t take it with me that night, because they had to size it. I have very small fingers. But on Dec 22,2009 we went back to Peoples and picked up my beautiful Heart Shape Engagement ring.Aaron did not get down on his one knee, but I knew this was it and it felt so special to the both of us. As I put the ring on my finger to make sure it fit, and of course it was a perfect fit, all I could see was Aaron watching me and smiling. That felt so right that night and I started crying. Everyone in the store watch and smiled too. The first thing we did, his idea, was call my parents and go over to their place and show them the ring. We all started crying…my Mom and me…Dad just shook Aaron’s hand and congradulated us.
We will be getting married on May 28,2011 and I am so excited!!! I am marrying the man of my dreams. I feel so lucky to have Aaron in my life. The best thing I did was ask him out….

  • Dawn Bowman says:

Well…this takes the cake! He nailed it!!!
Jeff and I have been dating for three years. We met at a volleyball tournament and it literally was, “love at first sight!”
Every year we sign up to play in this annual volleyball tournament because it is a very meaningful one…its where we met.
Jeff wanted to do something different and unique for a proposal. He thought where better to propose than at the place we first met. His plan was to have all of our friends and family show up to the tournament, and at 12 noon, he was going to propose! Awesome!!!
Unfortunately, about two weeks before the tournament, Jeff was diagnosed with a rare inner ear, viral infection call Labyrinthitis. This causes chronic dizziness, visual problems, nausea, weight loss and balance problems. We had no idea why he got it and no idea how long it would last. This really blind sided us both…and I had no idea he was trying to plan a proposal.
The plan now was, I was going to play, and he was going to watch, but still propose as planned.
About three days before the tournament, we got confirmation that it was cancelled due to the unfortunate loss of one of the players wifes. This was truley a sad circumstance and made us both appreciated each other even more.
Jeff’s condition was slightly worse and he didn’t know if he could go on with this proposal. However, he knew that this day was important and he wanted to continue with the plans.
Dispite his dizziness, nausea, vertigo, and shakes, he struggled to phone, email, text and invite 50 of our closes friends and family to come to our house to join us for this proposal. This was all planned in two and a half days. I was none the wiser.
The Saturday of the proposal, I went for a walk with my dad and dog Wilson (named after the volleyball!). When we came back, I opened to door and was shocked!!!! I saw a room full of people so very close to me and Jeff. I immediately started to cry. Jeff came over and said, “I have a question for you.” He got down on one knee (after a very emotional proposal) and asked, “will you marry me?” Of course I said YES without any hesitation!!! The rest of the day was spent visiting with great friends, remembering the last three years with each other, and eating fantastic food my mom and Jeff’s mom prepared.
This proposal was everything I could have imagined. It was emotional, exciting, and most of all, a complete surprise! Just how I wanted! This has really showed me the lentghs Jeff would go for me. Through sickness and health is what they say…thats for sure!!!
I am extremely greatful to have met Jeff!

We had talked about wanting to get married for a while but I didn’t have any idea of how or when. On a random evening in November Adam picked me up from my night class at the university. I was having a really bad day and was very tired because I had spent all day doing my student teaching in grade one class then went straight to my night class after. Adam told me got me a little something from “Staples” and it was at his apartment. When we got there he told me to sit on the couch and he left the room. He came back in with a giant gift bag. He told me to open it and inside I found a card and a story book that he had made about us. He told me to read it outloud. He wrote it like a fairy tale and had lots of pictures of us. I thought it was sweet but since he always does sweet things I didnt think anything of it. I contiued reading and it said “all things were going great and the coulple couldnt be happier but there was one thing missing. That all changed on November 9th 2009 when…” and when I turned the page to continue reading Adam got down on one knew and proposed! The last page read “adam asked shannon will you marry me?” It surpised me so much that I threw the book and shouted “yes!”

My name is Abigail and I recently got engaged to the man of my dreams. His name is Eric and we have had a long distance love affair for the past year and 4 months. He is American and lives in Florida. I am Canadian and live in Toronto. We fell for each other when I was in a work assignment in Florida.

We have been able to see each other every month since we got together. In February of this year, we met in Fort Lauderdale before departing for Costa Rica for vacation. I had flown in and realized that my baggage didn’t arrive; it was sent to Miami instead. Needless to say, I was very upset because it was the start of my vacation. Eric, as usual comforted me and told me everything would be ok.

He took me to an area of Fort Lauderdale that he used to hang out at. It was a beautiful part of the city, along the river where there were streets that had cobblestone bricks that were engraved. People could personalize them for a nominal fee. We were looking at the different sayings on the bricks and it made me feel a little better. At one point, I had noticed a pair of green parrots on a tree close by so I was taking some pictures. Then, Eric said, “Hey, come over here, there’s this cool brick that you should check out!”. So I went over to see this brick that was close to the water. I looked at it and on the brick, it read, “Abi, a lifetime with you is a dream come true. Marry Me Eric!”

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Then, I turned around and Eric was down on one knee with a ring in his hand, asking me to marry him. I was so shocked and surprised but elated with the most joy I had ever felt! So much so, that I forgot to say Yes. After coming down off my cloud, I did say Yes and jumped into his arms. It was my dream come true! I eventually found my suitcase and we celebrated our engagement in Costa Rica!

  • Chelsea says:

Doug asked Chelsea to marry him on Valentine’s day and it was the most Canadian proposal ever!
Chelsea was visiting Doug in Ottawa, and for Valentine’s day they went on a fancy date to the Empire restaurant. After a delicious and romantic dinner, Doug asked Chelsea if she would like to take a walk in the park near the National Gallery right across the Rideau Canal from Parliament. Once they had reached the top of hill Doug got down on one knee and proposed to Chelsea. She immediately accepted with an excited “Yes! Of course, yes!”
What made this proposal super Canadian is that in addition to taking place in our great nation’s capital, it was freezing outside! It was a sweet and romantic proposal but the only things missing were toques.
Oh, and earlier that day Doug and I watched Canada win our first ever gold medal on Canadian soil at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. See? Super Canadian!

So, Kevin and I started hanging out in Jan 2005 and officially dating in March. He had become my best friend and we had expressed our feelings toward each other soon after. I knew I was in love with him, and he was hesitant to use the L word for so many people don’t actually mean it. August 19 2005 we walked down by the river and sat on a bench under the stars. This is when he told me how much I mean to him, and loves me so deeply.
We had been talking about marriage after that, but due to him wanting to get finances together, the tentative plan was for a 2007 wedding. He secretly had bought me a ring beginning of September and planned to propose on our upcoming trip with his parents & friends in Hawaii (December 05).
I was so fooled! Girls would say he was going to propose, and I didn’t believe it. His dad almost gave it away, I didn’t even clue in.
So, 2 days after my arrival in paradise, December 25, we go to the beach for sunset pictures. Standing on the rocks, in the shallow water on Waikiki Beach (with his family secretly video taping and photographing every moment), he’s holding me as we stare across the ocean. With his background in Literature, he had composed the most beautiful poem he’s ever written, ending with turning around, knealing down and hand in hand, asking me to be his wife. (omg totally shocked, i had no words but my mind was racing faster than my heart) “Are you serious?” – wow, WTG Nicole. what an answer- anyways, I said YES of course!!! And took the whole ringbox and my fiance in the most unforgettable embrace that will last a lifetime.
It was planned perfectly, executed perfectly and a new page in our life together was started.
Each person who hears our Proposal story are wowed by the extent of planning it took for him to set this up for me, and that I’m the luckiest girl to have him. We’ve been married for 3 1/2 years, and I still am!
Happy to share our love story with you…

My engagement was two days fileld with romance. My fiancee had been playing with my head for months so any thought of possible engagement was far from my mind! It started on a Friday in May when I came home to find a beautifully wrapped gift in our living room. It was a framed piece of art that turned out to be two certificates my finacee had bought. He purchased a couples star and the certificates showed where our stars were in the sky and acknowledged them as official stars. Very sweet. The next day I awoke to my fiancee handing me a few envelopes. He then mentioned to me not to wash my hair but to head to the hair dressers to get my hair done. After having my hair coloured and cut, the next envelope instructed me to purchase a dress for that evening. I started to get a little suspicious but again, he had played with my head so much that I put the thought of engagement out of my mind. After finding a dress, I was instructed to head home. My fiancee greeted me and told me to get dressed as we were heading for a night out. He also mentioned that we had to pop by Parliament Hill first. We arrived so he could pick up his camera that he had left at his office and said “We are already here and early for our next appt so why don’t we go take some pictures in the Peace Tower?” I agreed and so we headed to the Peace Tower. What I found odd was that everyone was leaving but again, just went with it and enjoyed. We were escorted up the elevator to the Peace Tower and were the only ones up there. It was beautiful and quite romantic…just us and a lovely view. After a few pics my fiancee said “I should probably explain why I purchased the stars for us. I got them because I want to ensure that you and I are together forever in the sky, but most importantly, together forever here on earth”, And with that, he was down on one knee and he asked me to marry him. I said yes, and was told we were off to dinner then to see Il Divo. It was lovely and oh so romantic. Alot of planning went into the proposal, as he had managed to have the Peace Tower closed just for us. Ive got myself quite the man!

Daniel and I had been talking about marriage and had decided that (for various reasons) it had to be this summer. So I already knew that was going to propose but not how and when.
We had just played Volleyball so I was all sweaty and still in my gym clothes. He asked me if I would proofread his thesis (he’s a Masters student). As I scrolled through the pages I came upon the Dedication page and it was dedicated “to my fiancée, Chiara”. When I looked up, he was down on one knee with a little box in his hands with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen.
I was so caught off guard and so happy I cried. So much so I don’t even remember saying yes (I think I choked it out between sobs). It was a wonderful evening and I’m so glad I get to spend the rest of my life with him.

It was the year before my university graduation and we thought it would be a good time to take a trip since we did not know what the future held and taking a trip after graduation might not be an option.

We headed to PARIS… I had always wanted to go to Paris and was excited to visit all the wonderful galleries, museums and all taste all the great foods. To be honest, I had hoped he would propose (after all, we’d been together for 5 years). But 8 days had come and gone and no proposal – not for the lack of romantic opportunities.

We were walking the streets on our last night in Paris and came to the Grand Arch where there was a huge pyrotechnic display taking place… As I was watching the fireworks and taking in the my last few hours in such a gorgeous city he caught me by surprise and from behind me he leaned in and whispered in my ear “marry me”… I couldn’t believe it. As I turned around to face him he said it again “marry me” – I said yes right away. We shared a big kiss and enjoyed the rest of the fireworks.

Claudio and Bianca met through a mutual friend whom Bianca was dating at the time. After Bianca realized he was not the guy for her she gave Claudio a chance. When he asked her out he made her promise she would never break his heart. After a week they both knew this was the person they were meant to be with, no doubt about it. The bond they instantly felt with each other was unreal. There were many ups and downs, financial wins followed by hard financial losses. Every time they decided to go house hunting or do anything to begin to build their future, something stopped them and pushed them back 3 years. It became very frustrating when all their friends were going off to get married and buying homes and here they were, wanting it more than those guys, and they couldn’t do it. Finally, on their 9 year anniversary while on vacation on a cruise ship, Claudio asked Bianca to go to the railing of their room balcony and look out at the stars and the ocean while he got her anniversary gift and brought it out to her. When she turned and saw him on his knee, so many thoughts went through her head and she quickly said yes as he asked if she would marry him. Now, Bianca is almost done school after going back as an adult. They will begin looking for a home to live in and will also begin to plan their wedding. Bianca kept her promise and didn’t break Claudio’s heart, now they will be together forever.

My fiancé and I had dated once before, and we knew when we got back together, that this was the real thing. Although we talked about marriage, we had a lot of other things going on, like buying a house, new jobs, etc., so getting engaged was not at the forefront for me.

He had told me that his company had booked their Christmas party and we were to go to Toronto for that weekend. He said he had also received a gift certificate from his new manager and he told me that he got it for me to use at my favorite store (of course he didn’t specify). I stressed for a week trying to find the right party dress and accessories; and when Saturday came, we headed out to Toronto.

We checked in at the park place, and ironically our room was facing Vera Wang bridal, lol. We stopped in for a latte and began to browse the shops on Bloor. He had told me that he had a 3pm appointment to pick up the gift certificate to which I just nodded as I window shopped. I was clueless. When it was time, he stopped in front of Tiffany & Co. I was thrilled thinking I would get to pick out a wonderful something with my gift certificate. (yes, still clueless). We were ushered into this little room where I sat down to wait. My fiancé placed a plate full of chocolate truffles down in front of me, and I remember my heart starting to pound in my chest. He came around the table with the most perfect little blue box in hand. He told me that he had thought of about a million ways to do this, and it really came down to the fact that he loved me and wanted to spend his life with me, making me happy. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Tearfully, I said yes. Then he told me there was not Christmas party, lol. We sipped champagne and ate our chocolates in tears. That night the hotel provided us with their limo and we were whisked off to the CN tower for a romantic engagement dinner. I can’t wait to marry this beautiful, wonderfully romantic man.

  • Tricia says:

Corey, my now fiance, can not keep a secret very well, so I knew he bought a ring. I even knew where he was hiding it; in a small compartment beside the steering wheel in our car. However, I did not know when, where, or how he would pop the question. We had a camping trip coming up and so I figured he’d do it while we on our trip.

A few nights before the trip our car got broken in to and the ring was stolen. I was heartbroken and Corey was furious! He didn’t know how he would be able to afford to get another ring since he still had to pay off the stolen one…our insurance didn’t cover theft of belongings from inside the car. He was so upset that he told me his proposal plan…he wanted to take me down to the beach (the camp ground we went to was in the Kouchibouguac National Park in New Brunswick) at sunset. I cried so hard when he told me cause I knew it wasn’t going to happen.

Well, he was able to get another ring; thanks to his parents, and tried his best to keep it a secret. He did a pretty good job but I still knew. We still decided to go on our trip and the first night we were there, after everything was set up, we were laying down in our tent relaxing and talking. He kept wanting to talk about the ring being stolen and I definetly did not want to talk about that. Then all of a sudden he was on his knees reaching in to his pocket and I knew exactly what he was doing. I instantly burst in to tears and all I remember him saying was “Will you marry me?” Of course…I said yes through my tears! It wasn’t the romantic sunset beach proposal as he originally planned but it was definetely more us and worked out perfectly!

I had been talking about it for a while with Jon – almost getting to the point of bugging, but I didn’t think I was being that bad! We had planned a weekend up north just after my birthday in 2008 with friends at a cottage we visit annually. I felt it necessary to remind him how romantic it would be – just after my birthday, with all of our friends around, a nice walk in the woods overlooking the lake on a sunny fall afternoon. But he never seemed to react much.
The Saturday morning I dropped him off with a buddy to golf, while I sat around the cottage relaxing and watching tv. That afternoon, when they returned we proceeded to open up some wine and beer (at the arrival of a few more friends to celebrate the weekend with)and I took him aside just once more to remind him how great this weekend would be if he proposed. That’s when I noticed he had his “mad face” on. He took me into a separate room and told me how it wasn’t the time, and I needed to stop bugging him and then proceeded to give me a footabll analogy (I hate football and he knows it) about waiting for the right time, and blah blah blah. I was mad/sad, and I shut down.

We made dinner, and I stopped thinking that maybe this weekend would be THE WEEKEND. The 5 of us at the cottage sat down, said grace, and toasted to our friendship. I was just reaching for the food when suddenly Jon grabbed my arm. I turned to him thinking “What, you seriously can’t wait for broccolli??” and noticed that he was down on one knee and talking about how I was his best friend, and he didn’t want to spend the rest of his life without me. I immediately burst into tears and keep asking, “Seriously?? Are you serious? Is this actually happening?”… it totally was. He slipped the most beautiful custom designed diamond and sapphire ring on my finger. Everyboday had known that his attitude was just an act; and that he actually only wanted to get out golfing that morning so he could talk over the plan with my buddy! He had asked my dad for permission the week before and even listened to my dad’s speech about marriage and love and how he better treat his little girl good!

Best moment yet in life. I can’t wait for our wedding on June 5th, 2010!

It was last December, two weeks before Christmas actually. I had told him before that my perfect fantasy proposal would be a Christmas eve proposal, snow gently falling around us. We would be standing outside and he would just completly surprise me by just dropping to one knee and presenting the ring. So, last December 16th, I was having a bad day, had been fighting with my mother and he suggested we go for a walk. I said I didnt wanna go walking. He suggested we go for a drive and after a little hesitation, I gave in. It was snowing gently and quite warm out for mid December where we are from. We were walking along the front walkway infront of our home, he was a couple steps ahead of me. I was walking along watching the back of his head when suddenly he spun around and dropped to one knee and presented me with the beautiful diamond cluster(which was actually a bridal set). He fumbled with the words and the finally just said “I love you, so will you..?” I couldnt speak, I just nodded until my neck hurt! It was the most perfect proposal and most beautiful moment of my entire life!! It wasnt Christmas Eve, but, it was snowing and everything was perfect and he said he decided to do it early so that it was truly a surprise. And he was right, it surprised me that I could ever love him anymore then I did before that moment, but, I still amaze myself at the fact that I love him a little more everyday still. We are to be married August 14th, 2010.

The night before Halloween I told my now fiancee that I had finally figured out what we could do to save money and still go out with friends. I told him that I would wear my mothers old wedding dress from the 70s and he could wear a suit and that I would do our makeup to make us look like ghouls. He thought it was a great idea!
Halloween night, Oct 31 2009 Justin and I were getting ready, makeup and costumes when he asked me to help him pin on his dried flower boutonniere. I put down my dried bouquet and he looked at me and said “So, you’re ready? You have your dress, your flowers, your makeup…but you are missing one thing”. Out of his pocket he takes out a box and gets down on one knee. I thought he was joking – but when he opened the box I knew….it was REAL. He asked me to marry him and I said “Of course”.
After tears of joy, my makeup looked better than before and we went out and had the best Halloween ever. I will never forget that night, it was an event that we are still talking about.

He had purchased the ring about 10 days before and when I told him my plans, he knew exactly what he was going to do.

The night Chris proposed to me was such a magical night already… He just made it surreal!
We were in Cat Island, Bahamas on our Christmas vacation with my family. It was just after Christmas (the 27th) and we had just finished a beach bonfire.
He asked me to take a walk with him down the beach, since the sky looked even more magnificent that evening than any other evenings…
I was reluctant to go for that walk because I had eaten something that wasn’t agreeing with me and wanted to run to the bathroom… OOPS! Lol…
I went anyways and we walked, talked and held hands… you know all that romantic crap you do with each other, and as soon as he turned and looked at me I knew what was happening.
It all came together in my mind because I was confused why my parents and 5 year old niece were still awake at that time as I turned and looked for them, guess who I found hiding behind a bush WATCHING this “simple walk down the beach”. Ha-ha! It was adorable to see the interest and anticipation for this moment from them.
So Chris got down on his knees and pulled a large clam shell out of his pocket… I was thinking to myself, HEY that was the shell we got snorkling today… I was wondering what happened to it!
As he opened the shell up and looked into my eyes, the tears just came out – of coarse – who the hell can hold that in when you’re being put in such an awesome moment with your best friend in the world!
Anyways, he told me how he couldn’t believe we had made it this far in the two years and how happy he was to find his “penguin”… (for those of you who are going… WHAT THE HELL? certain penguins, when they find each other, stay together for life… even if they get separated – they spend their lives searching for each other – never to mate again… So cute huh? LOL)
There was more said but I won’t go on with that…
The ring was so beautiful and sparkled in the moonlight so incredibly…
Needless to say, with all the excitement going on, guess what had to start rumbling … yes, my turning stomach! I told him that I would be his penguin and love him and be true to him for all eternity… But then said, “Baby, if I don’t get to a bathroom now – there is going to be some major trouble on this beach”… He began howling and carried me to the our cottage and waited on the bed… what a sweetheart.
So after that, we went out and gave the news to anyone around, including my family of coarse…
It was definitely the happiest and most interesting memory/night of our lives and I wouldn’t have wanted it to be any different….

    “For My Boo xoxo”

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed!

    She did what?

The day was July 10, 2009.
It was about 1pm, and Amanda took the afternoon off of work.
She convinced Jason to take her with him to get cat food and getting him to agree that a visit to the Chapters in the Mall was a good idea.
Amanda demanded that they stop before they go to the pet store, although Jason couldn’t understand what the big deal was, he agreed.
While in Chapters Jason when directly to the Photography Magazines, and Amanda went in search of a worker. She gave her camera to a Chapters worker explained what she was about to do, and the lady got really excited.

Amanda walked up to Jason and got down on one knee.

“You’re the most amazing caring and loving man I have ever known, you mean the world to me, would you do me the honor and be my partner for life and marry me?”

    Jason giggling responded.

    “Of Course”

That’s our story, He didn’t purpose I did. It was the place where we first met, infront of the photography magazines at Chapters, in Stone Road Mall, here in Guelph.

I had been busy planning a big Fundraiser for an Association I’m involved with when he took the mic at the end of the night and in front of all my friends he got down on one knee. After almost 11 years together it was the last thing I expected. I just kept repeating “Oh my gosh”. Needless to say, I did say yes. Then I gave the ring back to him (he didn’t know what to say to that!) just to hold onto so I could go clean up the hall.

My fiance Mike and I have been together for four and a half years. This summer I was doing an internship in London, England and it was hard not seeing him for a few months. After my internship, we decided we would take our first trip together and we planned 2 weeks of travelling through France and Italy. He flew to England on the last day of my internship and we left a few days later on our European adventure.

Our first stop was the city of love, Paris. We had both been to Paris before, but it was such a nice feeling to be in an exciting, beautiful place with someone I love (little did I know what was coming…) It was nice just the two of us together after two long months apart.

Before we went to Paris, we decided to splurge and get one nice, fancy dinner there. I had brought a little, black dress just in case. But after our first, long afternoon in Paris, we were too hungry to care where we ate. We didn’t even bother going back to the hotel to change after a sweaty afternoon of sightseeing. I was still wearing a hoodie and yoga pants.

After dinner, we took a walk to the Arc de Triumphe and took some pictures and I was ready to go back to hotel and sleep. But Mike was determined to go to the Eifel Tower.

By the time we got there, the sun had already set. It was dark, but the lights of the Eifel tower lit up everything around with a warm glow. Mike wanted to find somewhere to sit on the grass. We didn’t have dessert at the restaurant, so I went sifting through the backpack to find some cookies. I pulled the cookies out of the backpack and I gave the backpack back to Mike. He started going through it and he pulled out a ring box. The ring must have jostled around in the journey because when he opened the box, the ring practically fell out onto my lap.

I don’t even remember what I was thinking at that moment. I seem to recall it was almost like sneezing; your heart kind of stops and you don’t really remember what happened for those few seconds. He said, “I have a question” (I obviously knew what the question was) and then he said, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” After about a minute of recovery, he said, “So is that a yes?” and I said, “Yes! Yes! Of course!” We had been talking about marriage for awhile and I had an inkling it would happen in Paris, but it was still a wonderful surprise when it did.

I don’t think anyone else in the park noticed the proposal, but it didn’t matter. It was a beautiful moment that we shared together in Paris. We lay on the grass and looked up at the lights of the Eifel tower and they suddenly started flashing like fireworks. Mike jokingly said, “Damn, if I had known those lights were going to go off, I could have timed it better.” I then said, “I really should have changed into that black dress.” Then Mike started joking that he had proposed to me while I was wearing a stinky hoodie. I could have worn something nicer, but it didn’t matter. I just remember thinking that was one of the happiest and most romantic moments of my life.

The night that Dan proposed to me was an amazing and special evening that started with the Coldplay concert and ended with me sitting on the floor with my ring trying not to faint!

It happened on the evening of June 18th, 2009. He had planned a most amazing time, where once we got home he tricked me into thinking he had not wrapped my anniversary presents and made me wait outside while inside he really set up a red carpet path made of red tissue paper on the floor.

Once I came in to the sight of the beautiful set up and candles, he told me this was my movie premiere! He told me how our lives seemed “scripted” like a perfect movie that will end with “happily ever after”.

On the red carpet path there were gifts and some things set up! First he gave me a framed exact remake of (one of my favorites!)the “Gone with the Wind” movie poster which he had a graphic artist change to “Chubey with the Shale” with our faces on it, and our families as the supporting cast at the bottom – it is GORGEOUS – then he sang our favorite song to me with personalized lyrics, then he told me that he had been learning to play guitar while I had been out of town to be able to play it for me, and FINALLY he got down on one knee to ask me to be his forever.

I was thrilled at every single moment and I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing engagement. Of course, I screamed yes and ran around the room doing fist pumps til I got so dizzy I had to sit on the floor.

Finally he gave me a 5 page flyer he had created with pictures of us and the things we would do, all outlining the “engagement honeymoon” he had set up for us. We went Jasper Alberta for a long weekend where we had couples massages, hiked, explored, eawent for amazing dinners a two fabulous places, and enjoyed each other.

I can’t wait to be his bride!!!
