The Statement Necklace

Necklace from Free People, $42.

Free People, $42.

When it comes to fashion, I’m all about making a statement, taking risks and encouraging others to do the same. Which is why when my lovely colleague Christy, who is getting married in the very near future, asked my opinion about whether she should wear a big, bold necklace with her bridal gown, my answer was a resounding YES! While she worried that a chunky piece might look dated in ten years time, the alternative, a classic diamond necklace borrowed from a friend, just didn’t sound like the fun and fashionable person I know. Plus, an eye-catching necklace that incorporates some traditional elements such as pearls and crystals will always appear fashionable without being super-trendy. The moral of the story: your wedding style should go hand in hand with your personal style, so feel free to flaunt oversize jewellery, hot-pink shoes or whatever else makes you feel like, well, you!

It just so happens that I’m actually in the market for a statement necklace myself. So without further ado, here are some of my current faves! The best part of all? They won’t break the bank.

Anthropologie, $TK.

Anthropologie, $44.

Forever 21, $TK.

Forever 21, $19.

Urban Outfitters, $TK.

Urban Outfitters, $42.

Which of these necklaces do you like best? Are you considering subtle, classic pieces or something show-stopping for your big day? What other personal touches are you adding to your look? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Oh, and as a follow up to last week’s entry. I’m absolutely taken with several lovely dresses at Meg here in Toronto, so if you’re in the area you should definitely check out this shop. Lots of options for all your pre-wedding parties and your stylish maids, too.

besides what you mention above, bridal jewelry should match the style of wedding ceremony and, of course, the bride gown!!!

I LOVE the metal Urban Outfitters necklace. The flowers are very feminine, but the metal gives it a great edge. I’d wear that with just about anything!
