Welcome gifts sit high up on the good etiquette list for Destination Weddings. As most guests are travelling a great distance to join in your wedding festivities, it’s a nice gesture to offer them a small token of your gratitude! Something that says, “Thanks for coming, it really means the world to us!” Read the rest of this entry »

When Close Family and Friends Cannot Make it to Your Destination Wedding…

The majority of destination weddings will have a slimmer guest list than a hometown fete. And that statement is usually interpreted in a positive light by brides and grooms, as part of the allure of the DW is being wed in an intimate setting with only a small number of your nearest and dearest in attendance. However, what happens when some of those important people can’t come?

LUXE REAL WEDDING: Kate & Chirag

I thought I’d take a moment to feature one of my favourite wedding couples—Kate White and Chirag Patel. They had a stunning 98-person destination wedding at the Azul Beach hotel in the Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The ceremony was held at the Maroma chapel (which has views of the beautiful Playa Maroma) with a reception followed at the hotel.

Destination Wedding Flowers

When thinking about your bouquet, stop and consider flowers local to your destination. Best Beach

I had the great pleasure of staying at The Crane Hotel in Barbados last month. This is one of the few hotels on the east coast of Barbados facing the wide open Atlantic Ocean (think a steady, strong breeze coming off the coast at most times). Apparently, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous (remember Robin Leach?) named it one of the “ten best beaches” in the world!

Shoes or Barefoot?

One of the biggest destination wedding debates is whether or not to wear shoes. Are you a barefoot or heels gal? Most ladies I know like shoes a lot, and your wedding is a great time to splurge on a fabulous pair. However, stilettos are not realistic for the beach and traditionally, a barefoot ceremony goes hand in hand with a destination wedding.

Save the Date Magnets

When it came to my own DW, I decided to make my own save-the-date magnets. I figured this would be a sure way to keep the event fresh in my guests’ minds and get them thinking about booking their tickets to my wedding.

To start, I asked a very creative graphic designer friend to help me create the layout. We talked about sticking with a beach/tropical theme, but staying away from something too cheesy or cartoonish. Also, I wanted to incorporate my love for things antique into the design, so he came up with a vintage palm tree motif. I loved it instantly! He laid out the design in a tiled format on a standard 8.5 x 11 paper size so I could print them from home.
