A Casual Affair

When longtime customer, turned friend, emailed me late July to say that he and his girlfriend had decided to get married August 21st, it was a welcomed surprise!  We had a little over three weeks to transform their beautiful beach cottage, just three homes up from the famous beach boardwalk, and their two neighbour’s yards, into a celebration haven.

Nature lovers at heart, they wanted a casual garden party to adorn their union. The only decor specification that I was given was that there was to be lots of birch poles, making the entrances of the tents feel like a forest. All other design elements I could do what I pleased — how much fun is that!! Read the rest of this entry »

Current Obsession: Beeswax Candles

Bees may not be my favourite insects, but I do love them for their honeycomb-inspired patterns and the natural goodness that they provide for beeswax candles. I’m a huge fan of Big Dipper Wax Works for two reasons a) their commitment to being an eco-friendly and sustainable company (i.e. all their wicks are 100% cotton, etc.) and b) for all their pretty elements. Super Straws

Is it weird that I have an obsession with straws? Well, not just any plain ones, I’m particularly fond of the decorative striped ones. I think they would be a great embellishment for those of you planning a nautical/retro celebration. Read the rest of this entry »

Emmy Pick: Emily Blunt

Steve Granitz/Wire Image/Getty Images

If there was anyone that stood out for me during last night’s Emmy awards, it had to be the beautiful Emily Blunt–who was there accompanying her husband John Krasinski from The Office. Emily donned an elegant lavender chiffon Dior gown accented with a Lauren Merkin snake print clutch.

To top off her gorgeous attire, Emily asked Laini Reeves–her long-time hairstylist who also did her her hair for the wedding, to style her hair for the evening. The result? A sophisticated look inspired by the iconic finger waved hairstyles of the 1920s. “We wanted to create a look that was very different from any that Emily had worn before,” said Reeves. “Once I saw the gown, I knew that a modern look based on the waved looks of the ’20s was the perfect compliment for the design.” She made a low side-part on the right, pincurled hair while wet and misted it with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on wet hair. Once hair had air-dried, she released the pincurls and gently brushed the hair back, pinning it at the nape of the neck for texture and accenting the style with a diamond hair accessory. [stylelist]

Awesome Agapanthus

Is blue your colour theme? Agapanthus is a fun and unique flower with a warm blue hue. It’s funnel-shaped florets create a firework cluster giving arrangements texture. To help show off their splendor, in this particular wedding, I designed them with import blue hydrangea and creamy Vandella roses. Read the rest of this entry »

Let the Sunshine In

It’s hot, sunny and there’s a gorgeous beach in my backyard. Where am I? I’m currently on the gorgeous island of Turks and Caicos, staying at the lovely Beaches Turks & Caicos in their Italian village. I’ll be back on blogging mode this Wednesday with some updates on the latest Martha Stewart destination wedding packages available–should be exciting and interesting. In the meantime, if you’re thinking about honeymooning here or have never heard of this tiny island, here’s a great read that gives you the lowdown on everything you need to know about Turks and Caicos (i.e. where it’s located, best time of the year to travel, etc.).
