Our Wedding, in a Virtual Scrapbook!

I had been looking for a way to get the information about our wedding out to our guests, and also get both sides of the family to know each other a little better before the wedding.  Joseph and I thought a great way to do that would be with a wedding website that shares information about ourselves and about our families.

This way, even guests that were out of town, or that we hadn’t seen in a while could feel closer to us and the events leading up to the big day.

Now that the save the dates are mailed, (like Emily, I can’t call them STD’s either!) I can share with you our wedding website. One day I stumbled upon wedsite.com. A place specifically catering to wedding website design. It’s simple layout that you can customize with colour, music and photos—that actually looks quite professionally done, without the cost. You can sign up for a one- year or two-year membership, and away you go with your design. They also offer the first 14 days free to see if you like it.

I really felt it was nice to be able to put our story out there, for my parents friends who are coming, that might have known me as a child, but not Joseph or I as a couple. I also thought it was a nice way to honour our wedding party!

While creating the site I definitely realized a few things:

1. I really love our family

I realized while making the site that sometimes we don’t say the things we mean to our loved ones, and we can regret not sharing our feelings. I was really happy that I was able to write special messages about each of them and though I hope to say the same things in person on the day, I’m glad that I got to put it up there also, so that they all know how special they are to us.

2. Joseph was not cut out for website design!

Joseph wanted me to do the whole site, but I told him he had to write about his family too. I think he was shy to write something that everyone could read, but he eventually got it done. Now I still have to get him to write about his groomsmen! Hopefully before the rehearsal dinner! Heehee.

3. There are so many memories

After being together for nine years, it was definitely a bit emotional looking at different pictures to put up on the site, and choosing the songs that have been special to us over the years. Being together since 15 years of age, you have basically grown up together. It was definitely a nice moment of reflection about our relationship.

I’ve seen a few wedding websites from other brides and I’m pretty sure a couple of bloggers have some too, is anyone else planning a website?

If anyone wants to visit don’t be shy! Remember to sign our guest book :)  jessycaandjoseph.wedsite.com

Wow was all I could think when I looked at your Virtual scrapbook. I hope everyone who got your Save the Date cards realized you had given them this website.

I read your blogs and enjoyed them very much, I went back to them today to take a look at them again, the wedding is so close it is a nice reminder of all the steps we have all taken together to get to this point.

I think you did a great job of putting that site together. It’s really cute and gives such a nice little history on the two of you. I think the guests will really appreciate it.

Thank you for the beautiful comments, I wish I had been able to get back on here sooner, I’ve been so busy with work lately.

Steal away! That’s what I put it up for. I had spent hours searching for one, and I don’t even remember how I came across it, but I just found it was so different from all the others, I don’t know why more people don’t know about it!
    I couldn’t resist sharing!

Jen – I love the 50′s! Thank you :) It was for my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. We held a sockhop party. I’ll be returning in the 50′s attire in a later post too ;)

It’s definitely time-consuming to plan it all out and get it up and running. Once you start thinking about all the people around you, and your own story. But it was great fun to put together, and I’m really glad we did it

LOVE IT! I’m working on a wedding website as well and finding it hard to organize it-might be stealing some of your ideas!

  • Jen says:

Agreed, one of the more impressive ones I’ve seen. Great song choice too! And love the pics – you pull off 50′s retro very well!

I love your site and how interactive it is! Creating a website really does have you reflecting on your relationship, I’m still in awe that you’ve been together for 15 years, so amazing!

Thank you for sharing your website and your story. I found the same things out when we did ours but after seeing your website, I may just jump ship :).

  • Kerrie says:

  • Okay apparently I couldn’t wait ’til the weekend…. BEACH BOYS!! :) GORGEOUS site and such fun, I love it!

  • Oh yay!! I love the idea of a wedding website – although I hadn’t found one that worked for us yet (we tried one that we thought was PERFECT and then we were informed that they really appreciated the fact that we chose them for our 14 day free trial and could they have our credit card please. :(

I’m going to check our yours over the weekend :) And THANK YOU for also calling them “Save the Dates”, lol such an awful abbreviation and I see it EVERYWHERE on wedding forums!! :)
