Dress to Impress

From left to right - Kerrie, my best friend and MOH - Mikayla, my cousin and BM - Kendra, my cousin and BM - and me!
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m at the five-month mark now, and I’m starting to get a little nervous. I feel like I still have so much to do! Especially with our house being built, there are so many decisions to make!
My task with my bridesmaids and maid of honour this month was to get those bridesmaids dresses found and off the to-do list. Well, we’re already nearing the end of February and we didn’t make much progress so far. We originally planned for the first week of February, but my maid of honour got a job offer 13 hours away, with a week’s notice to move out there! And my mom ended up being out of town for work, so we moved our plans back a few weeks.
I decided that my three bridesmaids and I will start the hunt without my maid of honour. She’ll be visiting again at the end of March, but then I’ll have four months left, and I think I might panic if at that time we can’t find anything!
I’m torn between everyone wearing the same style dress and everyone wearing different styles. I know I’d prefer everyone in the same colour. Since they are all different, in height and body shapes, it might be better if they each dress in different dresses that they feel

100% comfortable in. We’ve done some researching online together and like the thought of David’s Bridal, which is in Burlington, just over the border, and luckily we all live close to it. We enjoyed the thought of a nice girls trip, and really liked the selection of styles that are available in the same colours.
I’d really like some input on colour choice. My bridesmaids are being really sweet and saying they don’t care either way, but that isn’t helping me get closer to a decision! They’d all look beautiful in anything, but nevertheless I guess I’ll have to make a choice pretty soon.
Which colour dress would be nicer:
A) Bright Pink
B) Tiffany Blue
The three colours we are using in our wedding scheme are ivory, Tiffany blue and bright pink. I think with either dress colour, the bouquets will be ivory with ivory shoes and maybe some pearl necklaces as jewellery. I think the contrast of the white would look nice with either of the colours, and it ties in with the colour scheme. My flowers would be bright pink, to contrast my gown. That’s also because I think I’d be out of luck trying to find Tiffany blue flowers!
Since we don’t have any perspective choices of dresses yet, I’ve included photos of my girls! They were from our trip to New York for wedding dress shopping. At least I had that under control!
I’d love to hear your experiences shopping for bridesmaids dresses! Did everyone get along? Was it hard to find the right dresses? I’m just so excited to spend time together! I’m really hoping we’ll all enjoy ourselves and find the perfect fit!

You are so close to wearing those dresses, and the girls will look perfect. Good choices! Good Colors! And above all we all had fun finding them.
I had such an easy time with my bridesmaids! I went in there knowing that they are all different shapes and sizes and would want different dresses so I told them to all pick from the same designer so that they could pick which ever style they wanted but would all end up with the same colbalt blue color. They all ended up being strapless and around knee length.. its just the rest of the style thats all slightly different (one is a two piece). This way they will all feel comfortable in what they are wearing and had the opportunity to chose what they wanted!
I had trouble getting the girls to decide on anything at the bridal salons…my biggest problem was the taste/generation gap. My bridesmaids are: my 18 y.o sister who’s style is “promesque”, a model type friend, a fashionista, a euro cousin, and a sister-in-law who’s a sporty new mom. My first bridesmaid shopping experience was so unproductive and stressful, that I just decided that I would chose the gown for everyone. I picked a beautiful halter, a-line gown from BCBG, that everyone loved! The girls where able to buy them at their size, and it worked out well.
Thanks for the comments!
Yes getting together was definitely tough, we almost didn’t go when my aunt had a flood in her basement the morning of our outing. My BM’s still came, but my aunt had to back out to take care of the house.
I think allowing their own style is definitely a great alternative. Keeping the same colour always allows for continuity in the theme, even different shades can look really beautiful!
Oh dear – unfortunately, I’m in the same boat. Trying to coordinate all my girls to come with me is a bit of a challenge; half of my girls have young children and the other half are busy career women. We’ve agreed on the colour and the basic shape however, we’re still undecided on the exact style, if it’s being sewn by a seamstress or if they’ll be purchased. I’m fortunate that everyone gets along; it’s just getting everyone together that’s difficult.
I would go with blue but that’s only because I’m partial to blue.
Side note to Jennifer: The women at LA Collections are fabulous aren’t they? I’m sure the dresses WILL compliment each other. Just had to comment on your comment because I had an amazing experience there :).
Your trip sounded like a lot of fun. I and my bridesmaids just recently picked out their gowns a couple of weeks ago. As each of them had a different shape I told them they could each choose their own style as long as it was the same colour. While trying dresses on it soon became apparent that what looked great on one did not do anything for the others. So each one ended up picking a different style. The one thing I would advise is that your bridesmaids choose dresses from the same design line to ensure that the shade of colour matches. My ladies picked dresses from different designers and each was a different shade of red. It caused me a moment of panic thinking how off the colours were going to be, but everything has worked out thanks to the great ladies at LA Collection in Winnipeg. Each of my ladies is wearing the dress they want but each one is wearing a dress that is a shade darker than each of the others and they are all in the same colour palette of red. So they will each compliment the other (I hope)
We JUST went to get ours last night! I thought it would be easy since we were looking for something very simple, strapless and floor-length, but apparently that’s the hardest thing to find as everything has bows, or ruching – we did find one eventually and luckily I only have two ladies and they are both about the same height and size, so we ended up with the same dress. I think making sure they’re comfortable in the dress is important, especially if they are all different sizes, as long as it’s the same colour. I would personally go with the tiffany blue but I’m a little biased in that I’ve never owned anything bright pink :)
The trip to NY must have been tonnes of fun!
