Capturing The Memories

I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who participated in the voting, and congratulations to my fellow bloggers!

My name is Jessyca, my fiancé’s name is Joseph and when we tie the knot it will be nine years that we have been together. High school sweethearts, we met when I was 15 and he was 16. I couldn’t ask for a better man to spend my life with. My maid of honour Kerrie has been my best friend since high school and she is also the reason we met. Joseph grew up across the street from Kerrie, they were childhood friends and she introduced us one summer. Fast forward seven years and you come to the proposal in front of the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. We had a two-year engagement, giving us plenty of time to plan our wedding for August 7, 2010. Here’s some of what we have planned so far:

-       Reception at the Windsor Ballrooms in downtown Montreal

-       100 of our closest family and friends

-       A lounge area in one corner of the ballroom

-       The ceremony location still needs to be determined, but that’s a whole other blog!

-       Four-feet tall floral centrepieces

-       Floor to ceiling curtains in the grand entrance and behind our head table

I thought an appropriate topic would be our photographers, considering this is the introductory blog and we just got our engagement photos taken!WBJan10_engagementpic2

I don’t know about you, but I knew one of the hardest choices and most important aspects of my wedding day would be my photographer.  I really wanted someone who Joseph and I would connect with and feel comfortable. I wanted to hang a portrait in my home that absolutely took my breath away when I looked at it. Not just a photo, but a piece of art. I think I looked at almost everyone in Montreal! Well that’s how it felt anyway.

After about the tenth appointment I was about ready to give up. My advice to you is: don’t settle. Don’t book someone that you are not 100% comfortable with, even if you’re frustrated and feel like you’ll never find what you are looking for. Let me tell you this—you’ll know. Just like that magical feeling of stepping into the wedding dress, you’ll know when it is the photographer. Go with your instinct and your heart. When I first looked at my engagement pictures all the frustration of driving to all those appointments and being disappointed time and time again completely faded away. It was all worth it, because Joseph and I had found the best photographer for us. For us it truly brought meaning to the saying “a picture can be worth a 1000 words.”

What is one of the most important things for you in your planning process?

a. Dress
b. Music
c. Photographer
d. Church (or ceremony location)

I’m signing off for now, but I’ll be back for help with my ceremony location!

    Hi Jessyca,

    Jess,
We have always recorded family events by photos. They are wonderful memories, I love your engagement photos and am confident that you have chosen the best photographer around. Rain or shine they capture the moment, the weather for your engagement shoot was horrid and you would never know it .

Your pics are gorgeous! I love your story as well. Not too often that high school sweethearts make it and you guys sure made it! Goodluck with the planning. For me, the church was definetly one of the most important aspects of the wedding planning…the dress was up there though!

Beautiful pics. I’m here as a friend of Emily’s but I wanted to echo the sentiments already given, it sounds like your wedding is going to be gorgeous!

  • Emily says:

Oh yes that’s right!! We just went to the big wedding show today and he had a booth and there was a big blown up version of it on display, which was slightly bizarre but in a cool kind of way :) I’ll definitely post it soon!

Judith – I can’t believe it’s been nine years! That’s pretty neat that it’s the same for both of us! I could go on and on about photography too, it’s really something I love.

That sounds magical for your church, having the dream while your a little girl and being able to make that come true is really special!

Emily – Your proposal sounds beautiful too! Very romantic!
Yes – I will have some decor photos coming up! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s pictures, all the weddings sound great so far.

I’m really glad we didn’t skimp on the photos, I think it’s important looking back, to love them. It just makes the memories more special. I’m excited to see the photo you’ve mentioned for your magnets (I think I’m remembering right) you said the photographer did something different! Can’t wait!

Congratulations Jessyca! Let me start off by saying I adore the first photo, it’s so elegant and you both look so in love with each other. When I get married this October, Mark and I will have been together for nine years as well – isn’t it just crazy?

I agree with your comment “I wanted to hang a portrait in my home that absolutely took my breath away when I looked at it. Not just a photo, but a piece of art.” When we found our photographer, we knew. Not only did we love their work – as they provided something that I quite enjoyed (great photography as well as some artistic touches)-they are so easy to get along with. I could go on and on about them (can you tell I adore photography?) but I’ll save that for a future post :).

Wonderful photos Jessyca and a great first post! To answer your question is kind of difficult. I can say that looking for a photographer was a difficult choice because there are so many. But the thing that was most important, for me, was that we got married in the church that I grew up attending mass. The church that I used to sit as a little girl daydreaming that I’d walk down that aisle on my wedding day. Guess what? I got the church! So now everything else is ‘icing on the cake’.

Best of luck to you and I’m looking forward to following your journey.

    Cheers,
    Judith

Congrats Jessyca! I love that you had such a fairytale proposal, and I’m really looking forward to seeing photos of your wedding as the decor sound just fantastic.

The photographer was one of the BIGGEST decisions for us – I had a friend who skimped out on the photographer and she says now that the only thing she doesn’t like about her wedding is looking back at the pictures of it. It’s so important to find somebody who really gets you, what you’re looking for, and is going to capture the magic in a way that’ll reflect the absolute happiness of the day!
