Rocky Mountain “I Dos”
My name is Amy Higdon and I am marrying my best friend Ryan Mullens on September 18, 2010. I know most people say they marry their best friend, but I believe Ryan and I have a very unique friendship and love.
Ryan and I met back in 2002 at Mount Royal College. We were in “Introduction to Computers,” a really boring class we had to take as a part of our Criminology degree. Ryan passed me a modem in class and at that moment he became my best friend. We did everything together. We were in the same classes; went on trips; learned guitar; attended family functions and we graduated from college together. We even went into the child and youth care field together, and worked together. Ryan and I both have dedicated our lives since college to counseling youth who are faced with abuse, prostitution, drugs, homelessness and many other issues. It is a real gift to be able to share your passion with the person you love.
All of our friends and family always told me that one day I would marry Ryan, and my reaction was always, “Gross, he is my best friend. That would just be weird,” but of course six years after we met I started dating Ryan. Nine months after we started dating, (November 29, 2008) Ryan asked me to marry him at the Calgary Zoo! Due to my absolute love for giraffes, he could not have picked a better place.
September 18, 2010 we will be married at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort in British Columbia, on the golf course with nothing but the Rocky Mountains surrounding us. (It is our favorite place to get away for a weekend). It will be an outside wedding, with white chairs and white carpet for me to walk down, with red rose petals all the way down, and the mountains in the background. Just picturing it gives me goose bumps and makes me giddy and giggly.
The reception will be red and white, filled with candles and red roses, white chair covers with red sashes, and white ball lanterns hanging from the ceiling. It’s going to be a wedding fit for a magazine.
I am the perfect bride for the blogging job, as I LOVE to talk about my wedding to anyone who will listen…and would love to share every detail with the world!!!

Hi Amy!
It’s come to a close and I just want to wish you the best of luck!
No matter what happens or who wins, I wish you all the best for you and your fiance Ryan, I know your wedding will be absolutely beautiful, that’s all it can ever be when two people love each other.
Take Care!
Jessyca
Sorry you didnt make it through it seems but it looks like it was fixed anyway clearly the Wedding Bells staff have already picked their winner (Mai) as they delete anything negative directed at her immediately while they let nasty comments on your entry stay up for days. They edit Mai’s comments too so she doesn’t look bad and make sure she is always in the lead. Its a fix and i’m sad for you. But best of luck in your wedding it sounds lovely
I think the Wedding Bells staff should take a note of what you said about the contest making you stressed and anxious; I have a friend in this competition who is having a VERY tough time with the rapid percentage changes, the negative comments, and the worry about what’s going to happen – I think a month was totally too long to draw out the tension and really brought out some negative things, when in the end all that really is going to count is how many people click a mouse for a certain girl. I feel sorrry for everyone in this contest and I sincerly hope the staff don’t do this to you all in the following round. I agree with a lot of the comments about it being unfair and its not fair for some of you who I know work 2 jobs, don’t have any time on their hands to see their fiance let alone spend a bunch of time voting, when others can sit around making as many accounts as they want and voting for themselves. I’m not accusing anyone of this but a lot of peoples suspicions have been raised in general and its totally a possibility and i definitely see how it could make anyone in this competition very stressed out. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I wish you all the best once this is all over and you can focus on planning your wedding!!
I wish you and Ryan all the best, it is very difficult to keep the “friendly environment” in which wedding bells is protraying of themselves. I have been voting in all catorogies and find yours to be very interesting due to the sudden decline for you and Ryan, after such a huge start. The other young lady must have rallied most of the Quebec population in order to do this. I do hope they are all invited to her wedding.
The common sense and math do not add up here, I honestly wish you and Ryan all the best and for some reason this contest was not meant to be for you guys. I know you must be dissapointed but I am sure your wedding will be beautiful and filled with diginty.
have a great wedding.
Oh Amy I don’t know what happened but I was voting for you. Best wishes for a truly wonderful wedding.
It seems like theres controversy going on around this post and the other post in the category as well and we all saw how ugly it got when people started saying nasty things about two other girls in this competition who had done nothing to deserve it. People shouldnt be quick to assume others are “cheating” or anything like that. Lets just keep voting for who we want to win and be nice to these lovely ladies!!!!!!!!!
Amy and Ryan, there definitely appears to be something fishy goin on!! Like Rita, I wish you all the best. You’ve been so honest during this competition as always. Nice to see you being a good sport, right!! May the BEST bride (AMY) win!!! xoXOxo
Sherri and Kat.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragment. we are not giving up, we will keep voting until the end. :)
it was a quick drop but maybe the other bride has just rallied up more support as the deadline is drawing closer??? i do wish everyone in the competition well but people are gonna go up and down based on popularity right, maybe shes just got more people voting for her simple as that, good luck though you sound like youre going to have a lovely wedding
Hey Amy and Ryan!
I love red and white weddings! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you.
If someone’s is seriously cheating to get votes, just remember that Karma always comes back two fold!
Amy, It is very dishearting to see that you have dropped so much over the last week or so. I are still cheering you on and voting everyday! Hopefully weddingbells is looking into this sudden decrease and figure out what is going on! Keep remaining positive and hopefully we will see you in the final 7. :)
Amy – I’d noticed the sudden drop too and I was wondering what was going on! Your wedding sounds beautiful – the candles and rose petals were just like how my fiance proposed to me, with candles everywhere spelling out “I love you” – it was so beautiful I cried and I can imagine how beautiful your wedding will be too :)
I know the feeling of marrying your best friend too – isn’t it the most wonderful feeling in the world? I’ve been through some pretty rough times and he really is my knight in shining armour – sometimes I just cry because of how lucky I feel!
It’s wonderful to share things you’re passionate about with the one you love too – both of us are very involved with World Vision and actively volunteer and fundraise, and I’m hoping we can incorporate this into our wedding somehow too. I wish you all the best in your marriage and your wedding, I’m sure both will be beautiful and full of happiness :)
Amy and Mai,
Wow, I’m kinda glad I’m not the only one who’s experiencing this – I too went from a considerable lead down to no longer in the lead. I will join you both in saying that I hope everyone’s being honest in their voting.
Love your wedding site Amy and I might have to borrow your idea – I started one with google sites and comparing it to yours.. I may have to move my site :).
I too am marrying my best friend – and I love that you and Ryan are devoting your life to the youth – I spend many hours volunteering whenever I can as well. You sound like such a sweet person and I wish you all the best of luck. You have my vote!!
May you and Ryan have a wonderful, long and happy marriage.
Cheers!!
Judith
Hi Amy,
I am in the ‘Intimate’ category and my percentage also dropped drastically over the last few days. I hope everyone is keeping it honest. Your wedding sounds phenomenal and I wish you all the best!
Cheers,
Mai
Hi Friends and Family
I know many of you are very concerned with the drastic change in percentage over the last week. Just so everyone knows, wedding bells is aware and are currently looking into the issue.
Please continue your honest voting!
Hey Friends.
I don’t know what is going on… all we can do is vote everyday and hope for the best:)
Amy! What is going on here? You went from 79-60% in only a few days… WHAT IS GOING ON???????????
