Cultural Fusion
My name is Belinda Allen. I’m 28-years-old and am getting married on August 28, 2010. My fiancé Hemant and I are planning a small wedding (50 guests). We are having the wedding and reception at a historic bed and breakfast in Saint John, New Brunswick. We’re having a simple ceremony, incorporating some of his East Indian heritage, and then a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception. We are not having anyone stand up with us, no dance or speeches. We’ve opted to go with a live band and just have a night where we can enjoy our guests (our closest family and friends) and they can enjoy the great ambiance.
Why me? Well I think I’d do a great job of giving the real bride experience. I’ve got lots of questions and have sought lots of resources to get the answers. I want to do something different, yet at the same time adhere to some traditional aspects of what a wedding “should be like.” I’ve encountered dealing with parental wishes and standing my ground on what we want for our special day, learning about cultural differences such as it is bad luck to wear white in an Indian wedding, dealing with rookie mistakes like booking a photographer early not really researching costs or other options, learning that compromises do exist, and working within a budget—all with still a year before the actual wedding!

Sorry you didnt make it through it seems but it looks like it was fixed anyway clearly the Wedding Bells staff have already picked their winner (Mai) as they delete anything negative directed at her immediately while they let nasty comments on your entry stay up for days. They edit Mai’s comments too so she doesn’t look bad and make sure she is always in the lead. Its a fix and i’m sad for you. But best of luck in your wedding it sounds lovely
I just want to say that I don’t know most of the people who have commented and that I haven’t asked anyone to say mean things about Mai. Whomever wins wins – it is just a contest, nothing to get nasty about. Its really unfortunate that this has had to end on such a negative note.
sarah,
I completely agree with you. I don’t think Belinda has anything to do with it. Her comments to calm everyone down would prove that to be true. I just felt I needed to say those things so that all this negativity can stop. If Belinda wins, I will be happy for her and would never say anything nasty about her and I hope Mai’s friends will follow suit.
Everyone, please get over it and let’s just play this out for the final day.
Thanks,
Holy I’ve read the comments too i think Sophie was just suggesting that mai might be using false aliases to advocate for herself thats all… and to suggest that belinda has anything to do with other peoples comments is just wrong. people have attacked jessyca when she took the lead, emily when people were saying nasty things about phillippa and now belinda when ppl are saying nasty things about mai… dont blame the other girls, they may have nothing to do with it and be just as appalled as you are
Hi Belinda,
I am sure you are a genuinely nice and kind person but some of your friends are some of the meanest people I have ever met (err…read). I can understand if they are upset that you are losing but when Mai was losing, none of her friends were all over your blog screaming “cheater.” As you mentioned, this was meant to be a fun competition (the actions of your friends would prove otherwise) and I can tell you first hand Mai doesn’t have the time to “sit in front of a computer all day” so-to-speak. You and your friends can choose to believe what you want but I have a clear conscience in telling you that Mai is not cheating. If not for anything else, please tell your friends to stop posting ridiculous comments on Mai’s blog as it screams jealousy. I’m sure that if you win this competition, you wouldn’t want to hear the same things so please tell them to be civil.
Thank You and Good Luck!
sorry belinda was voting for you and everyone i know was too, but the other girl seems to be glued to the computer taking you over at the last second everyday =(
Good luck Belinda it’s a very close race… you should win this category hands down
I think the Wedding Bells staff should take a note of what you said about the contest making you stressed and anxious; I have a friend in this competition who is having a VERY tough time with the rapid percentage changes, the negative comments, and the worry about what’s going to happen – I think a month was totally too long to draw out the tension and really brought out some negative things, when in the end all that really is going to count is how many people click a mouse for a certain girl. I feel sorrry for everyone in this contest and I sincerly hope the staff don’t do this to you all in the following round. I agree with a lot of the comments about it being unfair and its not fair for some of you who I know work 2 jobs, don’t have any time on their hands to see their fiance let alone spend a bunch of time voting, when others can sit around making as many accounts as they want and voting for themselves. I’m not accusing anyone of this but a lot of peoples suspicions have been raised in general and its totally a possibility and i definitely see how it could make anyone in this competition very stressed out. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I wish you all the best once this is all over and you can focus on planning your wedding!!
GO BELINDA!! It’s so close, I hope all your friends and family get on it so you can get through!!!
Belinda .. so glad you directed me and Elizabeth to this site.. getting so many great ideas, well Elizabeth is, for our day. I am a bit surprised at the snarky comments about your change in total… guess all those shows about Bridezilla’z are not that far off.. ohh well!
Good Luck,
WeddingBells – I posted that comment on the other entry. Please don’t post it on something I didn’t comment on. That being said, good luck Belinda, and the way they’ve pasted my comment then I guess listening to the one underneath it wouldn’t hurt, because I agree wholeheartedly that this is a wonderful concept for a wedding and I wish you all the best! And I hope you don’t let the negativity get to you – but you’ve shown your a mature candidate who doesn’t resort to retaliation, good for you.
Thank you everyone for your votes. I just want everyone to know that I’m in this to share my experience and have some fun. I think it is unfortunate that this contest has brought about some negative comments.
Good luck Belinda, I really hope you win, Good luck Belinda!!!
I’d listen to the comment below
Hi Belinda,
What a wonderful concept for the wedding. I hope it all works out with this competition. I am surprised it was so close since May was up 24% about a week ago. Great Job! You must have a lot of people voting for you. Just remember that the most honest person will win so I hope my vote will help.
Good Luck!!
Good luck girl we have everyone here voting for you, we all really hope you win

VOTE FOR BELINDA
I didn’t realize that you could comment on this until today – Karen, the B&B we have chosen is Homeport Historic Bed & Breakfast / Inn. Ralph the owner has a wealth of knowledge and has been great to deal with so far. He has a lot of great ideas and contacts for local suppliers!
Rita – I’m not going to wear a sari for the ceremony, but I’m still considering changing for the reception. I’ve yet to decide! I’ll definatley post pictures if I make it to the next round!
Thank you everyone for your support.
