The Wonderful Wedding Show & a Tribute

WBFeb10_flowers

Centrepiece #1

What is more exciting and fun than meeting your girlfriends to go shopping? Meeting your girlfriends to go shopping for your wedding! Winnipeg’s Wonderful Wedding Show was held January 16 and 17 where wedding products and service vendors from all over Winnipeg and surrounding areas came together under one roof to provide brides and grooms a one-stop shop for all their wedding needs. Where do I look first?? There’s so much to see!! The day we went, our main goal was to check out what was available for the groomsmen’s tuxedos, gather some decoration inspiration and scope out some florists. The guys’ searching started and ended about as quickly as the flavour lasts in a gumball—not very long. Their only dilemma: bow ties or regular ties. I’m not sure how serious they were about the bow ties (I’d prefer regular ties) although knowing what a lively bunch the guys are, I wouldn’t be too surprised if they showed up in T-shirts with a tuxedo design and top hats. Ha ha!

The Wonderful Wedding Show was a great experience and so much fun. But now I need help!! Do I nix my first centrepiece idea with ideas I got from the show or do I keep my original idea? Which one do you like?

Centrepiece #1: Made with materials from Dollarama.

Centrepieces #2 & 3: (Yes, these are hand drawn by yours truly.)

Part Two: A Tribute

Almost a decade ago, Mark and I randomly picked a date when we thought our friendship had evolved.
Almost a decade ago, my confidant would become my rock.
Almost a decade ago, we began our life together.

The week that this will be posted is the week Mark and I celebrate nine wonderful years together. While our relationship started as a friendship, I never knew that one day, he’d be my everything. So why is this important in a wedding planning blog? Because without him, there’d be no contest for me, there’d be no wedding, there’d be no happiness.

Mark came into my life when I so badly needed a friend—no more, just a friend. A time when my best friends were busy enjoying their last year of high school, a time when my graduating class was beginning their first year of University, I was badly in need of a friend. Our path crossed and kept crossing that it was hard not to believe it was anything other than fate.

Fast forward a few months. The two of us went out for a walk with my daughter who was then only a year and a half. I remember sitting at the park bench gazing at the star filled sky thinking that I couldn’t be happier. Then I saw them, the two of them, walking hand in hand down the path—Mark walking slowly, July taking many little fast steps to keep up—both of them, avoiding goose poop (he he). She was giggling with glee at their game and he was the leader of it, just the two of them. Tears came to my eyes and at that precise moment I knew that this was it. Every hardship after that I gladly embraced with open arms because I knew, I just knew, that through the hardships and at the very end of it, Mark would be there: unwavering and always there. It takes an amazing man to give a single mother a chance and an even greater man to stand by our side knowing that a future with us would mean many difficulties and all the patience in the world. He stood solid—being the stability and security we needed.

Happy nine-year anniversary Bey. We made it! Do you remember that one evening we spent at our spot when you WBFeb10_happySpotwhispered in my ear, “One day, I’m going to give you something that no one’s ever given to you before?” I guess you didn’t realize how true that statement was because no one else but you could’ve given me the greatest gift: you. Thank you for nine years of kicking my butt when I felt sorry for myself, for the giggles that made me laugh on my saddest days, for loving me despite my many faults and for the way you love my daughter. “Kinda like the feeling after your first kiss, except that everyday he makes me feel like this…” I love you Bey.

    Jason,

You are such a sweetheart! After so many years and so many kilometres between us, I’m so glad that we still support one another. I absolutely adore candles and you’re right, something about a candle really does make everything a little more elegant. I hope you keep reading because I know I love reading your blog (and looking at your stunning photographs). I wish you all the happiness in the world my dear!

    xo,
    Judith

Emily: Thanks for the greeting! We sure are lucky girls aren’t we?? Oh honey I love DOLLARAMA! I’ll definitely be doing a lot of shopping there for various things for my wedding – frugality, frugality! Thanks for thinking of me… I’ll email you when my schedule frees up.

Herman: Yes you have been to LOTS of weddings and I’m surprised to hear that – hasn’t been done? Intriguing! Thanks for the anniversary greets and happy Anny to you too my dear!

Casey: Thanks for the comment honey! If my post made you tear, you may want to have Kleenex handy on our wedding day because this was a toned down version – I’m pulling out all the stops and YANKING on all the heart strings that day. Ha ha!

Tray: Thank you best friend! I’m so fortunate to have you and your gorgeous daughter in our lives for the memories we’ve shared and the future we’ll have together. I love you and all the girls in my wedding for being so supportive and ALWAYS there for me.

Rodillo: Thanks God Sis! OoOo I agree with the height. I definitely want it tall enough to make a statement but not so tall that it’s hard to talk over and around it. My issue with #1 is that the vase that I had was a bit too small for the size table we’ll be having. But good call on the height!
Thank you all for taking the time to comment. I’m so happy to be able to tell the whole world what a wonderful man Mark is and give a surface view of the trials we’ve had to overcome to get to this happy point in our lives. Love you all very much – you’re all so dear to me!

This post really pulled on my heart strings :)
Happy Anniversary to you and Mark!

In terms of centre pieces, I’m a fan of #1. #2 and #3 are dependent on the height of the vase. I’ve been to weddings where the centre piece was soo big that you couldn’t see the people across the table which made is hard to conversate during dinner.

  • tray says:

OMG! As a ‘single’ single mother myself – that made me cry! As one of ur bff’s that’s seen you thru all ur ups & downs – that made me cry! As an emotional basketcase (only lately) – that definitely made me cry! And I’m at work to boot! LMAO Love you Ju, uber happy for you, Mark & July, can’t wait to read more of your posts, help you with whichever centrepiece design you decide on and be there to witness your special day! ;)

  • casey says:

oh ya and I like the 2nd centerpiece the best too!

  • casey says:

hahaha well atleast I’m not the only cry baby with tears in her eyes :p Beuatiful post Judith!

  • Herman says:

Hi Hun! I like the tall vase with the four small boxes! That’s something i’ve never seen at a wedding, and trust me i’ve been to A LOT of weddings.

    ps-happy anny again!

  • Emily says:

What a sweet story! Happy anniversary to both of you :) Our stories are similar in so many ways – David once told me something similar, about wanting to give me something nobody else ever had – and he’s given me more than I ever could’ve imagined. We’re lucky girls!!

For the centrepieces: DOLLARAMA! We got our vases from there ridiculously cheap, and I ordered things on eBay to fill them with. I’m looking for somewhere to buy bulk votives, too, since I think tealights would burn out too quickly. I’ll let you know if I find any good deals. And yes! Let’s do lunch again :)

  • Judith says:

Elle: You’re welcome!! I cried while I was typing my blog and I probably looked ridiculous but it was in the comfort of my basement :p. Thanks for everything and I know what ever I decide, you and the girls will be there to help me make them – and soon enough baby will be here too.. yay! I’m so glad that you also agree on the ‘death to bow-ties’ for our wedding – I was actually scared they were serious, still am actually. LOVE YOU TOO!!

Caren: Walk in clinic.. again? Oh boy. I’m glad you liked the post and we’re all crazy, just varying degrees… LOL! Thanks sister!

Thank you to you both, Mark and I are so fortunate to have you both in our lives and in our wedding. I think I’m leaning towards #2 as well – guess we’ll have to do some shopping.. yay!!

    Maraming Salamat!

  • Elle says:

Oops! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and Mark!

  • Caren says:

Ps: Happy 9th Years to you + my brother!

  • Caren says:

That was a beautiful tribute, I sit here at the walk in clinic crying…these people are gonna think I’m crazy. Lol

Your centre piece designs are beautiful, I really like the 2nd one, followed by the 3rd.

  • Elle says:

Jubi! Thanks for making me cry at work. Haha. I absolutely love reading your blogs. As for the centre pieces, we’ll figure something out! I like the tall vase with 4 black boxes around it =). And for the bow-ties, I suggest that you draw the line on that FOR SURE at the meeting. Lol.

I can’t wait until your next blog. Love you!!!

    Xoxoxo,
    Elle
