Welcome to My World of Simplistic Chaos

WBJan10_judith&markFirstly, thank you to all my supporters for helping me get this far—I am so grateful, thank you! While I may be simple and enjoy the simpler things in life, one constant in my life is chaos—so welcome!

Now that you’ve gotten to know me through my first post, I’d like to introduce you to my fiancé, Mark Vicente. Almost nine years ago, I can’t count how many of our mutual friends found our getting together a strange union. Why? We are complete opposites! I’m out spoken and very talkative; he’s the strong, silent type. I’m a hopeless romantic; he’s usually not—sweet is what he does best. I’m a worry wart; he’s the epitome of laid back. I’m… well, you get the point. While our major differences would’ve driven most crazy, it’s what makes us get along so well. But we do have some commonalities: we’re both big goofballs and have common outlooks in life and our future. Through the years, our differences have rubbed off on each other and I’ve learned so much from him. He’s taught me to savor the moment when I’m in a panic to get things done and I’m certain my outgoing personality has caused him to come out of his shell.

I’ve never had anything anywhere close to what I have with Mark. He encourages and supports me to be my own person. He is never resentful or jealous. I never have to check in with him and I’m comfortable not needing to know where he is at all times of the day. We have complete trust with each other which was, at first, a completely foreign concept to me. Mark is truly the love of my life, my best friend and my sanctuary; I’m anxious to begin the next chapter in our lives. Love you butthead!! (Yes, even our terms of endearment are silly—it’s always different, but still silly none-the-less.)

Our wedding will be one big DIY project because I love anything to do with design and to be completely honest I am a little bit of a control freak when it comes to design.  So what have we done so far?

- Colors/Theme: We chose black & white with lime/pastel green accents. We don’t have a theme other than sleek, clean and modern designs.

- Church: Booked and awaiting a meeting with the priest to be followed by marriage preparation classes.

- Reception Venue: Contract signed and date confirmed.

- Social Hall: Contract signed and date confirmed (this’ll be a big one ladies and gentlemen!)

- Cake: A good friend of ours, Charles V., owner of Charlee’s Restaurant, has agreed to make our cake.

- Photographer: Pink Elephant Photography and Design A wonderful couple whose work I’m currently obsessed with. I can’t wait to introduce you all to them in future posts. For now, you can view my headshot for a teaser.

- Invitations: Design completed (by me)—pending: supplies & assembly.

- Centrepieces: Created a sample a week before the invitation samples—pending: supplies & assembly. Can you believe that it cost only $6?? But they may change because I have a better idea. Intrigued??

- Guest List: We had to begin this before we did anything so we knew what size venue we needed to look for. One word—OUCH!

- Entourage: Selected and confirmed; which can be considered either average or far too large—depending on who you ask.

- Save the dates: Two of our Bridesmaids have graciously volunteered to design them for us—can’t wait to see what they come up with!

- Social tickets: Design completed (by me)—pending printing.

- Church aisle decorations: In design (by me).

WBJan10_myDesigns

A pretty good start don’t you think? So that’s just a teaser of what we have so far. You’ll just have to stay tuned for the next six months to get the details. Hope you’re as excited to learn about me as I am to share my planning with you all.

But you’re not off the hook just yet; I’m a chatter remember? That requires two parties: me and you. He he. Question #1 – Do you think that having my bridesmaids’ wear mainly black is taboo? Black is the predominant colour in my wardrobe and similarly my bridesmaids’ wardrobes, so it was just a natural choice. However, my mom isn’t too comfortable with the choice of colour because she thinks black should be reserved for funerals. I would love to hear your opinions please—happy commenting!

Meagen: Thank you so much! I’m so happy to hear that it’s been done before AND that you’ve already worn the dress again. That’s so awesome because that’s what I want for my girls. I want them to look stunning in a really affordable dress that can and will be worn again. Thank you for your comment and I hope you continue following my blog.

  • Meagen says:

Love your blog! I just wanted to let you know I was in a wedding this past October and we (MOH and BM) all wore black. it looks great in the photos and I have already wore my dress since the wedding.
I think black is great and everything sounds lovely so far!

  • Judith says:

Thanks Tita Vilma! I think I’ve convinced my mom that the girls will really beautiful in black. :) In the end, my mom will be crying from happiness regardless of what colour we wear.

  • Vilma Davila says:

I like wearing black. Black goes with anything. Black, is used to be associated with mourning and bad luck in the past. Not any more. Today black is in fashion. The younger generation including me (hahahahaha) do not associate it with tradition. Others look good wearing black dress.

  • Judith says:

Charlene! That’s so sweet, thank you!! Love your attitude, makes me smile :p. He sends his best as he wakes up from his nap on my couch – haha.

  • Charlene says:

    Hi Judith,

First off I would like to say CONGRATS~!!! and I love reading your blogs, your a great writer, if you decide to write novels I would buy them =) I think BLACK is a great color, who cares what everyone thinks its YOUR wedding remember? so do whatever you want.

Take care Judith and Say Hi to Mark for me.

  • Judith says:

Wow – good morning to me because I just realized that I said “..go at your own pace” twice in a row in the last comment.. ha ha! TGIF!

  • Judith says:

Thanks Carrie and no problem at all – I love listening/talking (in this case reading/writing) to brides. I have only ever experienced one bride who wasn’t thrilled otherwise it seems that all brides glow when they get to talk about their wedding. So I can’t wait to follow everyone’s journey – so different and beautiful in their own way.

Yes, I do have many things planned already but that’s only because when I get a design idea, it MUST be created right away to avoid losing the idea. Also, things get booked quickly so I wanted to book venues as quickly as possible to get the headache of “venue searching” over and done with. I’m positive you’ll have no problems at all getting everything done, just go at your own pace. I looked at wedding planning books but they made me feel anxious like I haven’t done things when the book said I should’ve done them, so just go at your own pace. You’ll be fine!!

Dark Purple!!!! My most favourite colour! It’ll be gorgeous my dear.

Best of luck to you and I too am looking forward to your future posts. (I’m still giggling at the thought of your proposal..he he..such a cute story).

    All my best,
    Judith

  • Carrie says:

Hey! Thanks for your post on my wall! Sounds like you’ve got most of your big day planned already! I’m jealous! I need to get my act together big time or else I’m going to have an empty hall with no food and a bunch of people! I like the color black too! Half of my bridesmaids are wearing black and the other dark purple. Goodluck! Looking forward to the rest of your posts!

  • Judith says:

Angeline: Thanks! Whoops, guess I misspelled one “color” and “savor” – thanks for letting me know, I’m usually very careful but I’m only human.. haha. The details of my wedding party will be in the next post but here’s a sneak peak: traditional Filipino ceremony + childhood best friends + God children + big family = one big happy wedding party!

Tara: Now a black wedding dress is something I personally wouldn’t consider but I know other brides have gone down that route. I’ll be looking for a white or off white dress. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks again for all the support! I’m having a blast with this experience and I’m really pleased to read the diversity in every brides’ planning and writing style.

    Happy blogging everyone!

  • Tara says:

I agree that if you’re comfortable with black then you should be fine with having your bridesmaids wear it. I think a lot of people nowadays associate black with elegance more than with mourning. I’m not sure I’d like the BRIDE all in black, but the bridesmaids, no big deal, especially if you have a bright accent colour like the green you chose. Bright colours in the flowers I think will really pop nicely against a black dress.

  • Angeline says:

I thought of Wicked the musical as well when I read that! Which is totally awesome btw. Good luck with your wedding although it’s a writing contest isn’t it, and there’s a lot of American spelling in there – maybe something to watch for in your future posts. Out of curiosity how large is your entourage? And I think black is classic looking you should definitely stick with it! You can always have greenery in your bouquets.

  • Judith says:

Thank you so much Stacey! Wicked the musical? I’ll have to check it out!

I hope you to do continue to follow my journey – it’s going to be one fun ride ;).

  • Stacey says:

Hey Judith, this is Tara’s friend Stacey who you met back in October.

I love the colours. It’s like Wicked the Musical, which I’m obsessed with!

It’s a new day and times are different, if your bridesmaids are okay with the black and it’s what you want, go for it!

I am looking forward to seeing and reading more.

  • Judith says:

Ateh Lynn: Thank you soon-to-be cousin! Please do keep reading and you’ll find out if I put the colour in my flowers :).

  • Rodillo says:

Luv the detail in your first post! Outside of the contest, this is such a great way for you to capture all the special moments throughout the planning process.
Black is the new `pastel` for modern day wedding it`s all good. Can`t wait for the next post.

  • Lynn says:

Love the blog soon-to-be cousin! I like black but I do like color..put it in the flowers!
Can’t wait to read more of you blogs!!

  • Judith says:

Casey: Thank you thank you! I’m always the first one to blab when I love something and you will soon find out :). I know my mom will love it but I guess her first reaction was that of shock. She’s a sweet little lady and she will cry the whole wedding. I think any traditionalist would also be shocked with having black as a wedding colour.. right? You know, I never thought of it that way – that guys wear black tux’s for almost every wedding, so why not us right? Well my girls anyway, I’m sticking to the white wedding dress and ignoring the symbolism of wearing white :p

Len: My darling Len – I would be honoured to have you be my creeper. Wow! Dark Fuchsia and green against black – how gorgeous! I wanted dark purple and green originally but the hubby said it reminded him too much of the joker.. haha! Thank you so much for such a compliment, can’t wait to hear all about your wedding details!

Nette: As if you just compared me to the Twilight series – that’s HUGE. But yes, you WILL be addicted even though you have front row seats to it all. Love you!!

Rodillo: Thank you! Means a lot coming from another daily blogger such as yourself. Well, only recently have I added the colour purple to my wardrobe of mostly black so adding green to our wedding colours was a huge leap of faith.

Thank you so much to everyone for leaving your comments! I’m having such a blast. Please continue leaving your comments – they’re a great way for me to know how to deliver the next posts. So any suggests are always welcome.

I’m so very blessed to have all your support and I can’t say it enough.

  • Rodillo says:

Luv the post! This is such a great way for you to capture all the memories throughout the wedding planning.

Black dresses are A-OK. I’ve been to soo many wedding where the dresses are black – ‘pastels and bright colors’ are no longer the ‘wedding norm.

Enjoy every second of this journey!

  • Nette says:

My very first comment in the blogging world, all because of you my dear!!! EEEEEKKKKKKK :p

I am super happy for you! You are by far the most deserving person!! YAY!!!

Great first blog!! Can’t wait to read the next one!
Geez, this could be as addicting as the Twlight series!!!

    Love you lots!

  • Len says:

    Hey Babe!!

I am hooked already and I know I will be a devoted follower! (or creeper if you wish to call me).

I agree with everyone else black is a great color which looks on everyone! and as a bonus it is also slimming. My secondary sponsors are wearing black dresses and they were really happy with the choice. Our flowers/twigs are a dark fuschia and green so that should pop against the the dress.

Anyways I am sure whatever you come up with will be just as beautiful as you!

  • Casey says:

Judith!!! Yay your first post!!!! LOVE IT!!! I’m so excited to keep reading about everything :) Thank you for all your lovely comments about our work, your such a sweetie and I’m glad you like our stuff! I’m loooking forward to shooting all the details designed by you. I think black is such a great color for bridesmaid’s especially if you add that pop of color… loving the sash or oversized scarf idea. I think if you show your mom something black with the pop of color she might be able to visualize it better to see its not so depressing. Also I don’t think as many people wear black to funerals anymore so why make weddings the same old? Plus the guys wear black most of the time so why not the girls? Anyways something to think about :)

Looking forward to all the posts to come!

  • Judith says:

    Vanessa,

CONGRATULATIONS!! That’s so exciting – a bride in 10 days.. yay! Sounds like our colours and style will be similar only switch the fushia with lime green for my wedding – so pretty and elegant.

Thank you so much for your advice. I get too caught up about making sure everyone is happy with my choices that I sometimes doubt my own happiness with my choices.

May your marriage be filled with giggles as I’m sure love will be in abundance. I would love to see some wedding photos if you don’t mind sharing them.

    All my best!
    Judith

  • Vanessa D says:

My colurs are black and white with a splash of fuchsia, my maid of honour is wearing a fuchsia dress with a black sash and the rest of the girls are wearing black dresses with white shawls. I went with white bouquets for all the girls so this way there is some uniformity. My best advice as bride to be in 10 days is be happy with your choices!

  • Judith says:

Emily: Thank you so much! We definitely should meet up and compare design notes :p. I’m so glad we went with Casey and Jojo for our photographs – I’m so obsessed with their work.. ha ha.

Steph: Thank you!! I’m super happy for you and Ryan too! Wedding planning is already such a high but having the added bonus of sharing it with all of you just intensifies everything. Just message me when you’re free and we’ll talk hours :).

Jessyca: Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! Sounds like there’s a consensus that black and an accent colour is totally acceptable.

Please do stay tuned for DIY projects, dress shopping run down, a special anniversary post and much.. much more!

Many thanks to all my supporters – keep the comments coming! Yay!

    CHEEEERRRSSS!! <3

  • Jessyca says:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with black! It’s very flattering and will have nice contrast in photos! I think it sounds beautiful!

Can’t wait to hear about your DIY projects!

  • Stephanie says:

Judith it’s Steph! I love your colour theme and congratulations on the wonderful opportunity to tell the world about your wedding experience. Ryan and I are so happy for you!

I think the black is a good idea! Your wedding theme should reflect you. If you’re worried about the black why don’t you belt the dresses with the lime green to tie in the theme?

We should get together and talk wedding. I can go on and on for hours!

Best of luck with preparations and most of all HAVE FUN!

    Love,
    Steph

  • Emily says:

It sounds lovely Judith! I ran into Casey from Pink Elephant the other day and we were talking about your headshots, which are just lovely :)

Black dresses are classic, and versatile – your bridesmaids will love them. Maybe you could get a green sash or something to tie in with the colour scheme and lessen your mom’s worries?

I’m a bit of a design freak, too – I’m almost a year out and I’ve already got the invites ready to print! We can plot design together :)

    Congrats again!

  • Judith says:

Vanessa – You read my mind! I was planning to add a touch of colour: hand bag, sash, or as you say, shawl.. I’m a huge fan of shawls/pashmina’s/oversize scarves. What are your bridesmaids using for a pop of colour?

Thanks for the advice, it’s definitely nice to know that I’m not too off in having my girls wear black.

Congratulations to you on your engagement and I wish you the very best! I do hope you’ll tune in..

  • Vanessa D says:

sorry I meant to write shawl (not shall!)

  • Vanessa D says:

My bridesmaids are wearing black as well, and I (and they) think it looks great! If your worried about the colour think of adding a hit of your other colours in the shall or flowers. This will brighten everything up!

  • Judith says:

    Thank you seestar!!

That was another reason I wanted to go with black dresses – re-usability right? I know how pricey bridesmaids dresses can be so I wanted them to be something that is beautiful and versatile. Plus black looks good on everyone and I want my girls to be drop dead gorgeous – and they will be ;).

  • Caren says:

Congrats on your first blog, seestar! Great job on the invites and social tickets!

I personally don’t mind the black, at least the dress can be worn again…besides, it won’t be entirely black.
