Intimate Affair

CharlotteMy first sashay down the aisle was four years ago. Long story short, $35,000 and three months (yes, 90 days) later, we split for many reasons, some painful, some terrifyingly obvious in hindsight.

I work as a family law clerk. I sift through divorce court documents and separation agreements all day—the kind where litigants are fighting over dishes gifted to them 20+ years ago at their weddings. To say I have seen it all at this point is an understatement.  If I had a dollar for every time a client has asked me why on Earth I would get married, well, let’s just say I’d have enough money to pay for the weddings of every participant in this contest.

This time will be different. My fiancé back in school coupled with the recent purchase of our first home and, now, the wedding is stressful. This will be tough. I will be required to be painstakingly budget-conscious. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would marry this guy in the basement of a high school. I keep this in mind when I become exhausted from explaining why it costs the same to rent one chair as it does to rent an entire table.

I am the best bride for this job because, in my opinion, I offer and interesting insight. Two weddings before the age of 28 is no small feat. It’s also not as uncommon as some brides in my position may think and certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

I’m so sad you’re at 49% when there is less then an hour left to go. I was voting 3 times a day and I’ve exhausted them all for the day. I wish you would get through.

  • Me says:

I still hope you make it through but even if you don’t it looks like it was fixed anyway clearly the Wedding Bells staff have already picked their winner (Mai) as they delete anything negative directed at her immediately while they let nasty comments on your entry stay up for days. They edit Mai’s comments too so she doesn’t look bad and make sure she is always in the lead. Its a fix and i’m sad for you. But best of luck in your wedding it sounds lovely

Come on Charlotte you were just in the lead!! Must be SO close I reeeeeeeeally hope you take this

  • Lisa says:

    Good luck Charlotte!
It’s been really fun chatting with you and no matter what I know you’ll have a great wedding. I hope I get to read about all of your experience though!

Oops sorry I had originally written on Judith’s but i wanted to support everybody and forgot to remove the top bit but i’m glad you’re not letting it get to you, and i still wish you all the best with your wedding

  • Charlotte says:

    Thanks Rachel!
That’s wonderful news! Hopefully we can pull through today!

  • Charlotte says:

    Thanks everyone.

S- those comments are, in fact, those of the other participant in this category and not me. I have not allowed this contest to affect my nerves or disposition, nor have I taken any part in the veritable bloodbath of comments back and forth about the majesty of rigged internet voting and the like.

I thank you for your comments though, everyone can take something from them.

    Thanks for all your votes!
    Charlotte

Charlotte both me and my hubby are voting for you every day, we REALLY want you to get through this round, you sound like you deserve it!!!! One more day I hope things turn around and you take the lead – I agree with S it must be very stressful :( you have our support

I think the Wedding Bells staff should take a note of what you said about the contest making you stressed and anxious; I have a friend in this competition who is having a VERY tough time with the rapid percentage changes, the negative comments, and the worry about what’s going to happen – I think a month was totally too long to draw out the tension and really brought out some negative things, when in the end all that really is going to count is how many people click a mouse for a certain girl. I feel sorrry for everyone in this contest and I sincerly hope the staff don’t do this to you all in the following round. I agree with a lot of the comments about it being unfair and its not fair for some of you who I know work 2 jobs, don’t have any time on their hands to see their fiance let alone spend a bunch of time voting, when others can sit around making as many accounts as they want and voting for themselves. I’m not accusing anyone of this but a lot of peoples suspicions have been raised in general and its totally a possibility and i definitely see how it could make anyone in this competition very stressed out. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I wish you all the best once this is all over and you can focus on planning your wedding!!

Your story surprised and inspired me and I wish you all the happiness in the world (and whatever prize this contest may get you– I couldn’t find it explained anywhere, but I hope you get it!).

It certainly is nothing to be ashamed of! Sometimes learning things the hard way is the only way to learn them and I do speak from experience – I’m glad you’ve found your prince and I’m sure you’re going to have a very happy marriage, best of luck

  • Charlotte says:

I’m still incredibly humbled to have someone voting for me every day whom not only lives in Dubai, but whom I have not seen since I was 12 years old! Nermeen, you are wonderful!

And thank you, so very much, to my wonderful friends, family and co-workers who have been voting every day. It means so much to me that you have taken the time to support my blog.

    You’re all amazing.

  • Nermeen says:

Darling… I’m sure this time will be just magical as you dream of it to be…
    Your story is inspiring.
You have found Love again… & that’s what everyone wishes to have after heart break.
You’ll be a beautiful bride & I’m sure whether you marry him in the basement of a highschool, or in a palace in Rome… you’ll be beautiful (though you deserve the Rome option :p)

    Thinking of you,
    N
