The Ring Dilemma
So, I have a problem. There is less than one month to the wedding and I still don’t have a wedding band. Maleke has his, but I haven’t found mine! Maleke picked out my engagement ring and it is beautiful, but I am having a really hard time matching it to a wedding band because of its shape.
It would really like to find a nice smooth wedding band that I could just leave on all the time. I actually don’t wear my engagement ring half the time because when I’m coaching it could scratch someone (when I’m “spotting” them) or snag on the aerial silks. So, I would really love to find a wedding band that looks great without the engagement ring. There was a matching band at Spence Diamonds, but it had scratchy diamonds and doesn’t look good on its own. I find that many of the sets have to be worn together to look nice.
This leaves me with three options that I can think of:
a) Keep searching for a matching ring
b) Get a wedding band of choice and wear my engagement ring on my right hand
c) Get a wedding band of choice and wear my engagement ring with it even though they won’t match
Should I go with a, b or c?
Anyone else have any trouble finding a wedding band to match their engagement ring?

Hey,
I have attached a website that likns to Esty. It is a website that links you with people who sell handmade jewelry. Its a great site for a lot of other things to. But with that you may be able to find a ring that suits your engagement ring better. I am not sure if you will be able to get one in time for the actual wedding. But if you are willing to wait this may be an option. Good luck!
Hey Heather, you could always just buy a simple mathcing gold band to make due with the time frame with the wedding being so close, then later on, get one made that fits perfectly! I would use any excuse for more gold and diamonds! hehehe
This ring comes with a tapered band that fits it perfectly but is not suitable to wear alone. This was my original mount… I work where I can and do wear my diamond at all times. The second option is a band with chanel set diamonds, you do see the gap but it really is not noticably to anyone but the wearer. What I did was remount mine in a flat band, it cost me 1200 but has changed it to a design nobody else has.. I’ll be honest and tell you I am a store manager that works where your ring is from so I do know that theses are the 3 most popular options with this ring. Also this was the same ring I started out with!!!
Buy a band you like. Then, when you have time (may not happen before the wedding given the time restraints), go to a jeweller and have them custom make you a band that fits between the engagement ring and the wedding ring. It will end up being contoured on the e-ring side and probably flat on the other. When you wear the three together, it’ll look great and if you’re not wearing the e-ring, JUST wear the wedding band. That way you have total flexibility.
I think I have the exact same ring as you and I’m having the same problem! I wanted to get just a simple slim band but it looks really awkward. The only thing that seems to make sense is to get a thicker band that works as a base for the ring to sit upon. But I’m still not sure. Definitely share what you end up deciding!
Very pretty engagement ring! That is quite a dilemma. I would say to shop for a wedding band that you like. While custom made would be great, it probably is cutting it too close (unless you can find a mom and pop store that’s willing to do it last minute and in your budget). If your wedding band and engagement ring end up not looking great together, you could always wear your engagement ring on a chain as a necklace. Some may not like that idea but I adore it.
Mark bought my rings together and I had a quick peak at it. It mimics the band on my engagement ring so it goes well together. We have yet to buy his ring but I love the one he tried on a while back :).
Best of luck and I hope you find a ring that’s not only functional but one that you love.
Any quality custom jewelery place will make you a custom wedding band. Go in and discuss your needs with the designer.
I had custom made rings for my first marriage (30 + yrs back) as I had specific requirements re: what I could wear for my employment. Now getting married again 30 something yrs later there is no way I’d consider anything but custom made – the fit & utility is so different than the standard fare in most mall jewelry stores.
LOL it’s a LITTLE tight… but if you go with something that you like just as a band on its own and buy it in the store instead of ordering, it doesn’t usually take more than a week to resize. A plain gold band or even half an eternity band (diamonds just on the front channel-set so they don’t stick out) would be lovely and you’d just have to get it resized. Plus if you get something that sits straight across, you can always wear it with an eternity band further down the line and they will sit perfectly together :) I think I know what you’re doing this weekend!!
Emily, I tried on a really thin plain band. I thought that would work too, but it looks weird with the space in between. I might have to settle for not wearing the rings together.
Trinidy, you’re right, I should start looking at the bands I like alone. I’ve been trying to find one to match, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Custom made may not be in the budget or the time frame.
Haha, I have 2 weeks to find a ring… last minute much?
My engagement ring came with the band, it’s a half eternity with princess cut diamonds, but FH won’t let me see it until the day of the wedding! :) Have you tried looking just at bands that you like alone and with your ring? Even though they don’t match, you can get one made, although with a month until the wedding, I’m not sure how fast they make them! You could always try that.
I was a little nervous getting my band – the engagement ring and band came as a set and the band was supposed to curve slightly to fit the shape of the engagement ring – but all the curved bands I’d seen I thought looked ugly!! lol. David had seen it and said it was really beautiful and fit nicely – so I trusted him… and it came in, and only curves very slightly. And fits very nicely :)
I would say a traditional smooth plain gold band would look nice with the engagement ring, and you wouldn’t have to worry about it catching on anything. I’ve also seen people who don’t wear the engagement ring once they get married – so you could just get that and not worry about them fitting together and just wear a gold band. Either way I think it will look nice and be practical for you when you’re coaching, too :)
