I Need Shoes!
There are only 50 days left until the big day and I’m ready to knock one more task off of the “to do” list.
My dress is supposed to arrive in February and I know it’s important to bring your wedding shoes to the dress fitting. This means I have to go get shoes! I have never been a shoe person. I always thought I would just wear running shoes under my wedding dress and go for comfort. My mom has convinced me that I could use a little bit of extra height though.
I know it’s all the rage to get a brightly coloured shoe, but I just don’t know if I’ll feel comfortable with a colourful shoe peeking out from under my dress. I’ve also heard that an open toe shoe can look weird with little naked toes peeking out from under the dress.
I definitely want to buy them in person. I think it’s a big risk to order shoes online… even if they fit, they might not be comfortable.
So what shoes do I buy?
Should I go with a:
A) A white open toe shoe
B) A white closed toe shoe
C) A brightly coloured shoe
No matter what shoe I go with, I will definitely have a cute white ballet flat as a back up (in case my feet hate me by the end of the night).
Invitation update—I ordered my invitations from Vistaprint and they look fabulous! I would definitely recommend Vistaprint (vistaprint.ca). The quality is good and the prices were very reasonable. I know the picture looks a little grainy, but it’s actually glossy and much richer in colour.

hmmm, i think having the ballet flat as back up is a great and practical idea.
Your dress definitely has a bit of whimsy to it so a peep of colour could work i think.
Sparkle too perhaps?? of course- lol
Maybe a 2 inch heel for comfort?
open toed or peep toe is definitely ok!
ohhh, wish I could be there for this round of shopping!
I should’ve gone shopping when I was visiting Toronto last month! D’oh!
Although… we were in the mall this Friday and I just so happened to see ONE white pair of boots… in the end of season sale… for 60% off… last pair… IN MY SIZE!! :) I got my boots :) They are a bit higher than my “indoor” shoes though – so I’ll have to take them to my next fitting. As long as my ankles aren’t showing I’m sure it’ll be all good :)
Whoops, forgot to comment on something else :). What a great idea about bringing in a few pairs! I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind.
Good luck on your search!
Personally, I think any shoe that flaunts your style on your wedding day is a winner; I find it adorable! I have yet to find shoes as well but I know I’m wearing ballerina flats all day for three reasons: 1)Flats are very me 2)I have foot issues that would not allow me to wear heels for too long before I’m in pain and 3)Mark’s only slightly taller than me and I’m old fashioned and would like to be shorter than my man :). I agree with all the girls; I don’t think there is anything wrong with showing your toes and I love S.K.’s idea of getting a pedicure in one of your wedding colours.
One of my friends wore really nice Nike High-tops with her dress – the guys wore Nike’s as well – because she and her husband are what they call ‘sneaker-heads’. Even their cake had shoe toppers :p.
Anyhoo – my choice would be to go with what you’ll feel comfortable in, it is YOUR day after all.
I agree with you and Emily; Vistaprint is great and your invites turned out wonderfully. Very nice!
Emily, too bad your not closer to Toronto. Yesterday I was at a mall in Toronto and there were so many white boots! I was looking for shoes, but it was boot season at the mall!
That’s a REALLY good idea! I wish I’d known, and having a couple of options would be great if you could return a pair. I’ve been scouring the internet for white boots and all I’ve found so far are patent thigh-highs that look like they should be accompanied by a stripper pole, not a wedding dress!! :)
Most weddings I’ve been to have had open-toed shoes. I think that’s just fine. And I like S. K.’s idea of coloured toenails so much I may just have to steal it!! :)
Emily – From how much I still have to do… you’d think the wedding was 6 months away! My dress just arrived this weekend, so this weekend is shoe shopping time!
S.K.- Most of the bridal stores remind you to bring your shoes before coming for your fitting. That’s why it’s crunch time for me, because I have to get shoes before my dress arrives! The bridal store actually had a good suggestion; to buy a couple pairs of shoes just before the fitting that can be returned. That way you can bring a couple different pairs to the fitting and figure out what works best and bring back the other pair.
I like open toed shoes myself. I just read on someone else’s blog that it can look bad. I just wanted to make sure that’s not the general consensus.
I was happy to see your fellow contestant Emily write about the importance of taking your shoes with you to the fitting. It’s something many brides fail to realize that it’s one of the things needed most early in the planning process. What kind of dress did you order? I don’t think there is anything wrong with toes. You can have a nice pedicure or paint your toe nails in one of your wedding colours. I would go with open toe – also feels more feminine.
Oh goodness I didn’t know it was so close! I hear you on shoe trouble – I have to find two pairs, one for indoors (I ended up going with an open-toed white shoe) and one for outdoors (because I refuse to have wet feet lol) – but finding a white BOOT is proving extremely difficult!!
Also – Vistaprint is totally awesome. I get my business cards from there and they cost me something ridiculous like $8 :) Your invites look lovely!
