She’s Crafty

LisaI’m not the kind of girl who has been planning her wedding since she was a little girl. It’s not that I’m anti-marriage (all you need is love!) but the idea of pink roses, shiny diamonds and the Macarena, make we want to throw up all over the bonbonnières. On the other hand, I’m obsessed with organizing and planning. I’ve chosen a career as a production coordinator for film and TV—currently working on the TV series, The Tudors, so it’s really is in my nature to plan and craft one hell of an original event. I’d like to call it our marriage party.
Our wedding, er…I mean, our marriage party is planned for next June at the Argonaut Rowing Club in Toronto. Its theme is a little bit vintage, a little bit rock ‘n roll. I can’t reveal all of our plans, but a few reasons why our wedding will be an alternative to all the plain ‘ol boring weddings of the past are:

  • My engagement ring doesn’t have a diamond in it (gasp!)
  • Our close friend Amanda is performing the ceremony
  • My Maid of Honour is my best friend Michael (I call him my Man of Honour)
  • I’m designing and making all of the wedding invitations, decorations, table settings, etc. Everything!
  • If you pick me to be one of your wedding bloggers, I’ll blog all about my creations and all about how my relatives can’t believe we’re not having a wedding cake!

A REAL modern urban wedding, not one that just pretends it is!

    Hi Lisa,
Finally this round is over…that sure was a long month! I’m sure your friends are as sick of voting as mine are! We were pretty close for most of it! Now, I guess we have to wait to see who will win it! I wish you all the best with your wedding!

    Cheers!
    Heather

  • Lisa says:

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who voted for me. The support of my family and friends has been amazing. I am also so touched by the amount of strangers who have supported me wining this competition. SO nice of all of you! No matter what the outcome is, I already feel like I’ve won because of all of your kind comments. It really has meant a lot to me.
    Thanks again. xox

  • Stef says:

I’m so sad you’re at 49% when there is less then an hour left to go. I was voting 3 times a day and I’ve exhausted them all for the day. I wish you would get through.

  • Emma says:

    Let’s go, Lisa!

  • Mom & Dad says:

Voting has been stressful, watching the votes fluctuate and now so close … No matter what the outcome, our wedding celebration will be outstanding !!!

All the best to all the contestants.

  • Me says:

I hope you make it through but even if you don’t make it through it seems but it looks like it was fixed anyway clearly the Wedding Bells staff have already picked their winner (Mai) as they delete anything negative directed at her immediately while they let nasty comments on your entry stay up for days. They edit Mai’s comments too so she doesn’t look bad and make sure she is always in the lead. Its a fix and i’m sad for you. But best of luck in your wedding it sounds lovely

  • Valerie says:

I think your marriage party sounds wonderful and I can’t wait to see all the home made items you have. I hope you have a lot of fun getting this ready.

    Lots of love.

  • Melissa says:

WeddingBells you CAN’T put the women in the next round through this tension again, it’s too close and makes for such negativity. I hope you all take into account what these ladies have been put through as a result and find another way of picking the final winner. Good luck Lisa!

  • S says:

Come on Lisa!!!! you were in the lead this morning!!! This SUCKS I want you to get through so badly!!!

  • Charlotte says:

    Lisa!
It’s been a slice! I hope we both bust through the 5 o’clock mark to victory!

No matter what though, your wedding will be beautifully alternative!

    Charlotte

  • S says:

oops i had posted that to all the brides i wanted to encourage please ignore the top part about “what you said” lol i just hope its not getting to you and YAY you’re winning keep it up!

  • S says:

I think the Wedding Bells staff should take a note of what you said about the contest making you stressed and anxious; I have a friend in this competition who is having a VERY tough time with the rapid percentage changes, the negative comments, and the worry about what’s going to happen – I think a month was totally too long to draw out the tension and really brought out some negative things, when in the end all that really is going to count is how many people click a mouse for a certain girl. I feel sorrry for everyone in this contest and I sincerly hope the staff don’t do this to you all in the following round. I agree with a lot of the comments about it being unfair and its not fair for some of you who I know work 2 jobs, don’t have any time on their hands to see their fiance let alone spend a bunch of time voting, when others can sit around making as many accounts as they want and voting for themselves. I’m not accusing anyone of this but a lot of peoples suspicions have been raised in general and its totally a possibility and i definitely see how it could make anyone in this competition very stressed out. I’m sorry you had to go through this and I wish you all the best once this is all over and you can focus on planning your wedding!!

  • Lisa says:

Thanks again for voting for me everyone!
    xox

  • Missy says:

Tight race! Still voting for you, good luck!

  • Renee says:

Lisa, you have the creative energy and enthusiam needed to make your wedding party a truly unique and exciting experience. My vote goes and best wishes go out to you!!!

  • Tiffany says:

As someone who didn’t have a wedding cake, designed and created most of our wedding “schtuff”, and didn’t want a diamond e-ring, but was given my husband’s grandmother’s(which we later resigned into something more me). It’s great to see more and more “alternative” brides! Good luck!

  • Rita says:

good luck lisa i think you shoudl win this round cuz lots of brides are into DIY stuff for their wedding. i wish both of you all the best for your weddings though i’m sure they will be lovely!

  • Renay says:

I hear ya sista about traditional weddings. It’s a great time in your life to create what you want, and not what is expected. Looking forward to hearing more about the planning!

  • Lisa says:

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments everyone!
I hope I get to share all of my projects with you.

  • Rita says:

Looking forwards to seeing lots of crafty projects!

  • Sandra (Mom) says:

LET’S GET THOSE VOTES IN FOR LISA… I AM AWARE OF A LOT OF THE THINGS PLANNED FOR THE WEDDING, AND I CAN TELL YOU IT WILL BE VERY DIFFERENT… AND FANTASTIC !!!

  • You know what really personalizes anything. Ribbon!
Why not put the names and date on personalized double faced ribbon to give it that touch of class.

  • Andrew (Dad) says:

Knowing you as I do, I know it will be a great and different wedding party. Go girl!

  • sheelagh says:

  • Joan ( Aunt ) says:

Hey Lisa, can’t wait for next June to roll around, remember if you need any help with anything at all, give me a call or drop an email, I would love to help out in any way I can

  • Judith says:

LOVE IT!! I truly can enjoy a woman who wants to take control of all the designs (because it makes me feel like less of a freak to be so obsessive about my own wedding designs.. hehe). I would really like to see what you come up with!

    You’re funny, charming and unique.

Best of luck to you.. you have my vote!!

    – Judith
