Is your skin in shape for your wedding day? If not, now’s the time to start thinking about it. Waiting until a month prior to the big day isn’t enough time to fully alleviate all of your possible concerns, whether that’s acne, hair removal, uneven skin tone or even fine lines. To find out more about some of the treatments available, as well as some tips on getting great skin, I visited Dr. Romy Saibil and Dr. Francine Gerstein at True Medispa in Toronto.
Here are some of their top tips:
1. Start a skin regime a year in advance. If you have concerns, (like rosacea, acne, etc), you’ll have plenty of time to see the results you want.
2. Book facials every four to six weeks, with the last one to two weeks before the big day. You’ll have fresh and glowing skin, plus it will make your foundation go on easier.
3. Try a chemical peel. Great for combination skin, there isn’t really any downtime to the procedure. Your skin’s complexion will be more even, hydrated and pores will be minimized.
4. Consider a photofacial if you have sun damaged skin, brown spots, rosacea or red spots. Broad Band Light (BBL), a light based technology targets the skin with heated wavelengths of light. It’s an ideal treatment to even out skin tone and get a radiant complexion.
4. Use an SPF 30. This level will block 90% of the sun’s rays. You’re really not getting much added protection with a high SPF.
5. Get sleep, minimize stress and don’t smoke. All of these show up negatively on your skin!

I have zero budget for facials and that sort of thing but my skin has been a big worry for me for my wedding day. When something major is going on in my life, my skin pretends it’s not really in its mid-twenties and acts like we’re in 10th grade all over again! I get horrible breakouts, and always on my chin. It’s kinda gross lol. I cleanse and use all the Neutrogena products on the market but I don’t seem to be able to prevent breakouts when something major happens. But you make a good point in sleep having an effect – I’m horrible at sleeping when I’m stressed, too, so maybe the answer lies not in a bottle of cleanser but in a sleeping pill? Haha :)
