Heart-Throbbing Colour

{All photography courtesy Michael Moore Photography}

Hues, tones, textures… they can say so much. When my long time childhood friend, talent artist, graphic designer, and in my humble opinion colour expert, asked me to do her flowers, I admit I was stressed!! She had a vision of specific autumn colours accented with warm notes of eggshell blue, mixed throughout layers of petals. After searching through magazines for inspiration, pouring over pantone colours, and choosing the perfect ribbons, this is what we came up with. Enjoy, I hope these pictures inspire you to come up with your own unique colour palette. (More photos after the jump) Read the rest of this entry »

Dreaming of Summer

I feel like this snowy winter day calls for a floral eye candy blog post! Fest your eyes on this pretty wedding we designed last August, let the soft hues warm you. Each bridesmaid’s bouquet was a unique cluster of summer blooms, and the brides was a mix of all the girls bouquets together. Each of the guys bouts co-ordinated with the girls bouquets, which was soooo cute!! The centrepieces were large, organic, full of greens, and designed with seasonal Canadian garden flowers. Embrace Halloween

Photography courtesy HRM Photography.

What a fun weekend to have a marriage celebration! You may not want your guests wearing costumes, but there is subtle ways to celebrate this holiday, while keeping your wedding an elegant event. Pumpkin centrepieces are always a hit! I might even say Cool, Green & Shady has a bit of a reputation for how cute we make them! Go one step beyond and put a gourd on every napkin… bob for apples to allow the bride and groom to kiss… a candy bar with a Halloween feel… It really is too much fun! Your guests will love it, and I’m sure will remember it with fond memories for years to come.

My Hydrangea Addiction

Photography courtesy Michelle Quance Photography.

I totally love hydrangea! I think I may have mentioned this before, but its lush, full, spectacular blooms put a huge smile on my face. I love to design with it in every aspect of a wedding, right down to the bouquets! Yes, bouquets!!! If you keep the hydrangea in water right up until you start pictures, it will live four to five hours out of water from that point—which is the perfect amount of time for a wedding ceremony and amazing photos to occur. If you want to keep it perky past that time frame just throw it in a vase of water in a focal location (ie. head table) and that will help it stay strong for the remainder of the evening.

Black Is So Sexy

Bridesmaids in black dresses, a black sash on a stunning white wedding gown, black vases, black napkins, and even a black calla lily bouquet—no colour just black & white—timeless, stunning, and yes… sexy.

Classic Graydon Hall was the back drop for this formal wedding.  A clear fall day allowed the ceremony to take place in the back garden, with cocktails around the fountain, dinner on the picturesque veranda—tented in a ballroom setting, with evening dancing inside the manor. Summer Sedum

Sedum is an amazing flower that changes colour as the season progresses. It starts to become available in early August in a fresh green colour.  As the season progress it changes to a soft pink, then a rosy pink, and then rapidly darkens to a burgundy. The season typically finishes right after Thanksgiving. Read the rest of this entry »

Looking forward to tulip season!

Photography courtesy Kevin Lam.

I just had these amazing pictures sent to me by photographer Kevin Lam, from a wedding we did together at the Carlu in the spring. They made me miss tulips!

I have been meeting with plenty of spring 2011 brides as of late, so I thought even though these pictures are not in season, they may be the perfect inspiration for all those couples out there trying to decide what to do for their up coming spring wedding. Read the rest of this entry »
