Let there be lies!
I’ve heard from those in the know, (my married friends) that we should avoid the “W” word when arranging certain things. This became glaringly obvious yesterday when my fiancée attempted to align our flowers for our—shhh!—wedding.
She went to two stores, (due to their gouging, I won’t be able to afford a libel lawsuit, so I guess I can’t mention their names, though I’d certainly like to). She asked them the same questions and received the same answers, so I assume this is standard industry practice.
She asked for the price of Calla Lilies.
“Four dollars each.”
“Oh, okay. So if I wanted to buy a bunch for my wedding…”
“Then the price goes up.”
“Uh, okay. Well, what if I just bought them and said I wasn’t taking them to my wedding?”
“Well, you’ve already told me that you are, so now I know.”
This is literally the conversation they had while my soon-to-be sister-in-law laughed from the shopping cart. (Wink—shopping cart. Think huge discount store with memberships).
She then went to a local flower shop and had the same conversation with a lady who was friendlier, but still said that they charge more for weddings, because if people ask where the flowers came from, they have a reputation to protect. Therefore, you cannot arrange the flowers yourself. Right…
To point: if you are into any DIY for your nuptials, be sure to be crafty—lie if you have to. This, of course, is more difficult when negotiating with a photographer or deejay because you will eventually be found out, but for things like flowers, work your inner sleuth.
