Montreal Getaway

wbmay09_rimatadTravel tops my list on what I would do if I won the lottery. Tad’s choice would be to buy a cottage where he can go fishing whenever he wants to. But lucky for me, he also appreciates the city side of life. So, this past long-weekend we drove up to Montreal and had a fabulous time!

Fortunately for us, I have a really great friend who lives in Montreal and she was kind enough to open up her home and her schedule to show us around her city. There’s nothing better than playing tourists undercover. ☺

However, this was the first time that we were staying together at a friend’s place in a town that wasn’t ours. So I’ll admit, I was wondering how Tad would survive without all his technical support. No video games, no HDTV, no computer and no idea as to what the schedule was going to be.

Turns out he can adapt! He was totally open to the whole schedule of events including shopping, dinners, site walking and even bar-hopping. I discovered that in order to get your husband to take you out dancing, you just have to take him five hours out of the city and leave him with no other options.

There were a few minor “glitches” of course, for instance by the second day he was trying to encourage my friend to purchase some kind of router so he could completely re-configure her computer for the most optimal use…or something like that. But other than that, he was totally amazing. And my friend doesn’t even have a flat screen TV! That’s why I married you babe. ☺

As for Montreal, here’s what I learned—the English language is hard to find. They have a thing for one-way streets and roundabouts, a weird hate-on for everything Toronto (so glad Tad didn’t wear his Leafs jersey as originally planned), some awesome real estate that’s rooted in history, great great food, lots of parking that’s cheap or free and a large sense of style! Oh, and no right hand turns on red lights and no jaywalking or else you get a ticket.

I learned that I love Montreal, but there’s no disputing it—Toronto is our home.

Hi Sarah – Yes, it really was just like the Edmonton/Calgary hate-on. Hilarious how that has to be.

Hi Heather – Glad I was able to provide you with some dancing strategy:) Good luck!

Thanks for the tip: “I discovered that in order to get your husband to take you out dancing, you just have to take him five hours out of the city and leave him with no other options.”
    haha! I love it.

It really is the same as the Edmonton/Calgary hate but on a larger scale

Had a great weekend too babe! I must say though, the hate on Montreal people have for Toronto is uncanny. I was even privy to some bashers that had not even visited our beloved city. I for one, loved the city of Montreal, I loved the culture, and even the awkward streets. Overall, minus the hate on they have for Toronto, great vacation! Next one we get to bring the fishing rods!!
