Q: I’m interested in wedding genealogy charts, but I looked everywhere on the Internet, and I couldn’t find a close-up of what one should look like or how to do it yourself. Any ideas for formatting genealogy charts?
A: Wedding genealogy charts are a great way to spark conversation between guests! They map out how each guest at the wedding is connected to the bride and groom—whether it’s through friends, work or family. If you’re going to make one yourself, you can take cues from traditional genealogy charts, but add subheadings such as “Friends from Work,” “Family,” and “Friends from College.” Under each of these headings, connect the guests who know each other. For example, draw a line connecting guests who were friends in college with a little note saying “Friends From College.” There should be three columns: one for the guests of the bride, one for the guests of the groom and one for the guests of both. If you’re looking for inspiration or if you opt for a professional genealogy chart, check out the ones at Mélangerie.
