Rain Check
Q: We’re getting married in mid-August in a park. We can’t think of any contingency options for what to do if it’s pouring rain on that day. We also want to know how to approach this on the invitations for our guests.
A: If the area is large enough I would consider renting a tent. Not only will a tent protect against the rain, it will also give you and your guests some relief from the hot August sun. A tent also gives you the ability to control the temperature to some degree by adding fans. If a tent is not your style, then make sure you have an alternative indoor location planned as a backup.
For the invites, use rain cards. Rain cards are small cards that give the alternative location for the wedding and/or reception. They might read: “In case of rain, the ceremony and reception will take place at _____.” Rain cards are great because it means that your alternative indoor venue does not have to be directly beside your original.
