Centre of Attention
Q: I’m having a very intimate wedding with about 60 guests, and I don’t know what to do about centrepieces. I would like to incorporate candles and gerbera daisies, and I want simple but elegant. Any suggestions?
A: Small, intimate weddings are a bit more fun and easy to plan because you don’t have the stress of trying to pinch your dollars and there are less people to please. First, talk to your florist or decorator about your budget and how elaborate you want your centrepieces to be. If you want something low and romantic, try votive candles around a ball-arrangement of gerberas and peonies (they make a fantastic combination!). For a greater design statement and more of a wow-factor, place pillar candles around your table. Pair this with a tall vase finished with a floral arrangement on top. Candlelight, according to Preston Bailey’s book Design for Entertaining, flatters everyone and creates a romantic, magical mood. Your options are quite endless here so be creative and enjoy the process!
