Odd Man Out
Q: My fiancé has asked his father to be his best man, which I agree with because he looks up to his father and they have a great relationship. However, he is much older than my maid of honour who is in her 20s. Should we have him walk up the aisle with his wife and have my maid of honour walk alone? Also, we didn’t want our parents sitting at the head table, but since his father is the best man he will sit with us, which means my fiancé’s parents will be separated. One option is to have both his parents sit with us, but I don’t want to make my parents feel left out, and I don’t want to throw the balance off the bridal party.
A: Why not have an interim man of honour who can walk your maid of honour up the aisle while your groom’s father walks his wife up the aisle? He can also sit with you at the head table, and the groom’s father can sit at the parents’ table. Another option is sitting both sets of parents at the head table. I would not recommend you sit just your fiancé’s parents at the head table as this may cause problems with your parents, and separating the groom’s mother and father is just odd.

I had my mother as my maid of honor, and at the reception she chose to sit with my father and my in-laws at the parents table while my bridesmaid and the best man sat at our head table. my brothers who served as ushers sat with our parents.
