Taking it Down a Notch
Q. I bought my dress in September and have since lost 30 lbs. I’m wondering if it’s possible to take a dress down several inches without ruining the beadwork.
A. Any skilled seamstress should be able to make the necessary alterations. Taking a dress down a size is much easier than trying to bring it up one. Be sure your seamstress has altered wedding gowns before as there is often a lot more work involved than say altering a little black dress. Reducing beading shouldn’t be an issue. At your fitting be sure to explain how you’d like the beading to look once your dress size has been reduced. Remember that some beading will ultimately have to be taken off.
