Island Love: Bermuda

Ever been to this very British isle? It is one of my favourite places one earth and somewhere I absolutely recommend as an amazing honeymoon destination. Renown for its pink sand beaches and turquoise waters, Bermuda is a small, luxury island located off the coast of North Carolina in the western Atlantic Ocean. I have been to Bermuda twice, with my most recent trip being last March when we did a shoot for the Fall & Winter 2009 issue of Weddingbells—the island certainly made for a stunning backdrop. When we were on island we were guests of Fairmont Hotels who have two fabulous resorts on property—the Hamilton Princess (which is celebrating it’s 125 anniversary in 2010!) and the Southampton. The Bermuda Fairmont team was in Toronto this week to host a luncheon at the Fairmont Royal York to celebrate all things Bermuda. Our lunch menu offered a tasted of the island in both food and drink (a rep from Goslings famous Bermuda rum was in the house for a spirited rum tasting!). There are tons of things happening on the island this year and the Fairmont team reported that so much of the Bermuda’s tourism traffic comes from Canada! To bump visits even higher, the both Fairmont are offering all kinds of amazing deals and incentives to get you there to experience the wonder of the island. If it’s been on your radar as a possibly honeymoon destination, there’s no time like the present to go. Added bonus for Toronto-area dwellers—WestJet is starting daily non-stop flights to the Bermuda (it takes less than 2.5 hours to get there) beginning May 6.
