A Sweet Tradition

My wedding cake created by The Cake Box. Photo Ikonica.Wedding tradition dictates on a couple’s first wedding anniversary, you are to enjoy the sweetness that was your wedding day all over again by having a piece of your wedding cake. Once you’re party is a wrap, you are to save the top tier of your cake, wrap it airtight and keep it in the deep freeze for a year. My first anniversary was this past Sunday and I could hardly wait to get our wedding cake out of the freezer to enjoy (I was also very curious as to if it survived sans freezer-burn). The verdict: our red velvet layer of love more than survived, it tasted just as scrumptious as it did a year ago! Thanks to Yvonne at The Cake Box for the wonderful confection and my mum for the bulletproof packaging. There’s just enough cake left to enjoy another piece tonight.

Happy 1st Anniversary Alison and many more years to come.

Thanks for the information about storing your cake. It’s really great information to know.

MMm.. Red Velvet is so delish :).

The wrap and storage was pretty basic. Tier was wrapped tightly in cling wrap; then wrapped again in two layers of foil; then sealed into freezer zippy bag (make sure all the air expelled before closing). The fondant and the cake both were mint!

Aww, how sweet :) I’d also like to hear how it was stored to come out perfect a year later!

    Alison,
Can you give us any tips on how your Mom wrapped it for freezing?
