Hi!
I have always unofficially taken on the role as the Finance person in our relationship. As things are getting more serious with my boyfriend and I, I want to make sure that what I’m doing is the right thing for both of us! Couples around us are beginning to buy their first homes and have their first babies. I’d love us to take the next step towards our goals as a couple and this book would be a great help. I’ve always survived on my own, but now there’s two of us to look out for :)
I think having advice from the “Smart Cookies” would be very helpful as my fiance and I move more towards combined finances versus separate. Although we’ve done things a little backwards – have a house, a joint account, etc….we still each pay half or I pay one thing and him another. It would be great to have information on how to move forward from a financial perspective.
My fiance and I lead very separate lives, literally. He works for the military and can be gone months at a time. Due to this it comes down to me to manage our income, savings and all bills of the household except ones that are personally tied to him such as his credit card. However since he is not involved in our fiances, despite my efforts, he thinks he can spend large sums when ever and on what ever he wants. This form of thinking has now started to trickle down into our wedding plans and plans to purchase a house. I could surly use some advice on how to get him more involved in our finances and learn how to better our communication skills reagrding money.
My fiance and I don’t really talk about money, other than him telling me I spend money on stuff I don’t need (so not true!) and how I tell him that he spends it ‘not so smart’ He makes more than I do, and he pays the house and the heating, electricity, etc. But I pay the phone, internet, groceries, household stuff. (We Have spereate accounts, his money is his, mine is mine) But he doesn’t know why I’m broke all the time. He doesn’t understand how a person can rack up a credit card while in college, with no job and unemployment isn’t paid until I was finished. None the less, yes, we argue about money and I would like to find a way to talk to him about money. I think this book would really help!
I love books about money that are written by Canadian authors. I always learn something new, and feel like their advise is relevant to me.
Oooh, these are some smart cookies! They always have great, relevant advice. As I approach a milestone b/day, I would like to add this to my reading collection – and get smarter about my/our hard earned money! Thanks for the chance.
My fiance and I are doing things the untraditional way by buying a house first, having two children and now starting to think about a wedding. Having also decided to stay home and open a home childcare service, I could definitely use some tips. Hopefully, I can find a few minutes in the day to sip a hot coffee and enjoy your book.
Money is a constant topic in our house. My fiancé and I are constantly trying to get more for our money and to make sound financial choices. But between planning a wedding, trying to buy a house and everything else, it is has become fairly challenging to make smart decisions when it comes to money and to agree on them. I grew up learning that you have to save up your pennies and he grew up in a househould where money was rarely an object so it makes it hard for us to get along with each other when it comes to money matters. We could definitely use extra help!
My fiance and I have been working on a financial balancing act for the past three years while he’s been building his own business – I’ve been supporting us a little more, but trying to keep debt down and pay off student loans from graduate school at the same time. He’s just signed a contract with two other consultants, so now has a stable, well-paying job for the first time since moving back to Canada from the Middle East — we’re ecstatic, but with a wedding to pay for, limited savings, and significant debtload, we need to know where to start and how to do it strategically!!
I’m a graduate student mom who has student loans galore due to go into repayment upon graduation – I need to be prepared to save pennies! Plus, my husband is planning to leave his day job by the end of the year to open his own business. We definitely need to know what we’re doing!
I’ve been struggling for many years wit my personal finances. Now that my fiance and I live together, we have been trying to budget and save money for our wedding and house renovations, paying off at the same time student loans and mortgage. I could definitely use some tips on how to improve our finances.
