Trend Alert: Yellow Diamonds

The famous Tiffany Yellow diamond.
Thanks to the 12.5 carat yellow diamond Carrie Underwood is rocking, I’m predicting this fancy stone is going to be one hot rock in 2010. Just a bit of fun history about yellow diamonds—did you know that the most famous one is the Tiffany Yellow which is believed to have been discovered around 1877. To date, it is one of the largest yellow diamonds in the world, weighing 287.42 carats when discovered in the rough. It was purchased by Charles Tiffany and then was cut and reduced to it’s current size of 128.54 carats. The Tiffany Yellow was famously worn by Audrey Hepburn in publicity photos for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and today it remains set in the “Bird on a Rock” brooch, designed by famed Tiffany designer Jean Schlumberger. If you find yourself in New York, stop into Tiffany’s flagship store on 5th Avenue to get up close and personal with the Tiffany Yellow.
