#1 Wedding Hit
With 2010 marking the 25th anniversary of Weddingbells, we’ve been doing a lot of looking back. It’s so interesting to see what has changed with weddings, and what has remained constant. I can tell you there are many timeless trends when it comes to weddings, but one that took me by surprise was the song couples choose for their first twirl as husband and wife. There is one song that topped the wedding charts in 1985 and has continued to be in the top 10 for the past 25 years. Etta James’ 1961 hit “At Last” is the song, and with its beautiful melody and powerful lyrics it’s easy to see why it has remained a top choice. I would say the popularity of the song only increased as a first dance request when Barack and Michelle Obama chose it for their inaugural spin as President and First Lady last January. I love that song, it really is a classic. Makes me smile when I hear it.
I must be the only person in the world who hasn’t heard that song!! Our first dance is going to be really upbeat, but I’m nervous about learning steps (and forgetting them!)
