A Vintage Baseball Wedding in New Westminster

Real Weddings

City firefighters Erin and Jordan met through work but it was their mutual love for baseball that brought them together. “Baseball is my favourite sport and when I heard he had played college baseball I was quite interested in hearing more,” Erin laughs. Their connection was a home run—after a surprise birthday proposal Erin and Jordan knew they wanted to incorporate their favourite pastime into their wedding ceremony. “Baseball was the theme that brought us together and we wanted it to be the theme that united us forever,” says Erin of their outfield nuptials. While the couple’s plans were almost rained out, the skies cleared up just in time, allowing the two to wed on the mound at Queen’s Park Stadium in New Westminster. Their love of the game was also evident in the vintage-inspired details, with a baseball roster serving as a seating chart, and baseball gloves and pennants adding to the authentic feel.

A Rustic Backyard Wedding In Cold Lake, Alberta

Real Weddings

Chloe and Jeremy have known each other all their lives—Chloe even listed Jeremy as one of her best friends in an old school book. Although they lost touch, they later reconnected when Chloe asked Jeremy to attend her high school graduation. The two have been inseparable since. For their wedding day, they chose to say “I do” in Chloe’s grandmother’s backyard (where Chloe’s parents were also married). The space was an ideal fit for their rustic theme and decorations. “Two days before the wedding everyone in town was helping out by chopping wood for the ceremony arch,” Chloe shares. Of all the DIY details, the couple loved their wish lantern ceremony most of all. “We lit lanterns and sent well wishes into the sky—it was a great way to end the night,” Chloe smiles.

An Intimate Rustic Wedding in Fredericton, New Brunswick

Real Weddings

Even though Brittany and Terrance had discussed marriage – the couple even picked out Brittany’s bridal set together – the proposal still came as a surprise. One morning, Terrance woke Brittany up and told her he had something to show her. He turned on the television, which displayed a letter written to Brittany with their song playing in the background. “At the end of the letter, there was an arrow to click to the next page. As it opened, I read the words: ‘Brittany, will you marry me?’ I looked over at him and he was holding the open ring box. We kissed and grinned and after a few seconds he reminded me I hadn’t said anything yet — I said ‘Oh, of course, yes!’” laughs Brittany.

Brittany and Terrance loved the simplicity and intimacy of their small, family-oriented wedding. “Having my step-kids stand up with us during the ceremony, that meant the world to me,” says Brittany. The couple and their guests celebrated at their home, with family and friends providing delicious home-cooked food. Having the wedding on a gorgeous fall day added to the rustic feel of the day.

The couple chose “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?” by Thompson Square for their wedding song. “The song brings back memories for both of us. The first time we kissed, Terry started by saying ‘I think we should just kiss and get it over with.’ It was hilarious, awkward and cute, and I think of that moment every time I hear the song!” shares Brittany.

A Classic Rustic Wedding in Toronto, Ontario

Real Weddings

Giorgio was the first person Amanda met when she walked off an elevator at a Halloween party and it was love at first sight – even in costume (she was dressed as zebra, and he, “the most interesting man in the world”)!

Knowing Amanda had a keen sense for guessing surprises, Giorgio planned a week chock-full of dates. “We visited art galleries, went to incredible restaurants and even revisited the first place we said ‘I love you.’ I started to think that just maybe he would ask,” explains Amanda. “Four days in, I was pretty sure, but night after night no big question.” On the Thursday night, Giorgio had booked a table at SPiN for a game of ping pong and reservations at a French restaurant. Giorgio was hoping to set up his proposal at SPiN, but with a rowdy office party at the table next to them, he decided to take Amanda outside. “Although it was raining, Giorgio got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! We excitedly headed to the restaurant, where a gorgeous bouquet of roses and orchids was on our table. The husband and wife owners of the restaurant asked if it was my birthday and when we told them we’d just got engaged they brought out champagne for all 25 patrons!” recalls Amanda.

The couple’s big day combined classic elegance and rustic details, making the Berkeley Field House a perfect location for their ceremony and reception. Amanda and Giorgio included woodsy elements, such as birch bark centrepieces and handmade pine cone place cards, which were made by Amanda’s mother.  The bride stunned in a striking Monique Lhuillier gown and the bridal party and groomsmen were outfitted in a gorgeous hue of deep purple.

As per Peruvian tradition, the reception included a “hora loca,” or “crazy hour,” where costume pieces are taken out to get the party started. For their hora loca, the couple enjoyed getting silly with their guests in pirate costumes.
