About the Couple
Bride: Julie Vanderpluijm
Groom: Trevor Francis
Occupations: Julie is an event planner and Trevor is a producer/director.
How they met: Julie and Trevor met casually at a mutual friend’s BBQ. As soon as Trevor walked out on the rooftop balcony, their eyes met. They talked about two of their favourite things: France and food.
Favourite date: Their first. They brought a couple of wineglasses and a bottle of wine to a nearby park and sat on the swing set under the stars talking for hours.
What attracted her to him: Trevor’s style. The way he spoke and carried himself was so cool and effortless, and his smile was so warm and genuine. Julie was instantly drawn to him.
What attracted him to her: “I'd be lying if I didn't say that it was Julie's beautiful face,” says Trevor. “I've never seen a more beautiful woman in my life. Our conversation, while brief, was effortless and engaging. I had to leave the party earlier than I wanted to, but I thought about her until the next time we spoke.”
Engagement story: After a leisurely afternoon, Trevor and Julie went out to do some exploring and Trevor insisted on going to the Distillery District first. Eventually they made their way to the Thompson Landry Gallery. Immediately upon walking through the door, Julie noticed bossa nova music playing on the sound system, which she thought was special. Trevor walked around the gallery while Julie chatted with the owner. After a few minutes, Trevor excitedly asked Julie to join him in looking at a painting. As they stood in front of the piece, and Julie took in all the details—the scene was a starry night sky with a full moon and yellow butterflies—something drew her eye to the card on the wall, and she realized that her name was written in the section normally reserved for the artist’s. Below that, the title of the piece was “will you marry me?” Julie looked back at the painting one more time to see the pièce de résistance: a beautiful diamond ring sparkling in the centre of the painting. She watched as Trevor plucked it from the painting and got down on his knee to propose. All at once, the music changed to their favourite song. A photographer’s camera was clicking away, and tears were streaming down Julie’s face. Trevor had put two of her favourite things into the proposal—bossa nova music and art, and he actually painted the piece himself!
Words they live by: Live each moment like it’s a movie and you’re the star.
