Book: Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume 1 ($49)
Author: Julia Child, Louise Berthdle and Simone Beck
A Must-Have Because…Although it was re-popularized by the 2009 film, Julie & Julia, this volume has always been a classic cookbook comprised of 524 recipes. Its hope was to allow North Americans to capture the French style of cookery, and it succeeds as a how-to for everything from hollandaise sauce to chocolate and almond cake.
