About the Couple:
Bride: Angela Hansen
Groom: Michael Rodenburgh
Occupations: Angela is the marketing director for a plastics company, and Michael is the senior VP of Vision Critical.
How they met: They were both at a charity dinner with different dates, but were sitting at the same table. A few days later, Michael tried to get Angela’s number from a mutual friend. She assumed he had been with his girlfriend at the event, so she refused! Michael eventually found her on a social networking site, and they’ve been together ever since.
Favourite date: Angela’s favourite date was when Michael took to her to Raw Canvas in Yaletown—a café where you can paint. They spent the evening creating a masterpiece that they now display in their home. Michael’s favourite date was when he whisked Angela away to New York City. They shared a special dinner, a long walk and some cocktails. He says, “the weekend was magical and definitely cemented her as 'the one' in my heart.”
What attracted her to him: Angela shares, “I had no expectations on our first date; I actually wasn’t interested in being in a relationship at all. During our first date, he was so charming and polite and we had so much in common. It was one of those cheese 'me too!' moments every five minutes.”
What attracted him to her: “When we met she was wearing a blue dress and looked absolutely stunning.” After Michael got to know Angela he was really impressed with her balanced perspective and values.
Engagement story: Michael took Angela to a Japanese restaurant on New Year’s Eve. He made arrangements for Angela to get a special dessert. She was presented with two plates, one with “Will you marry me?” written in chocolate. The second held the ring and a chocolate “yes” and “no.” Of course Angela said yes, and the waiter made her cross out the chocolate “no.” After their romantic dinner, the couple went to a friend’s New Year’s party to celebrate.
