About the Couple
Bride: Annika Hastaedt
Groom: Patrick Carroll
How they met: In the winter of 2001 while Patrick was studying international business abroad at the University of Plymouth in England. Annika was a German citizen travelling from the International School of Management in Dortmund, Germany. They both lived in the same residence and hit it off. “After Plymouth and a summer in Paris, we kept our long-distance relationship together for nearly a decade with multiple daily telephone conversations, periodic transatlantic visits, and various attempts at starting a life together.”
Engagement story: “Patrick proposed on Boxing Day 2008 in my apartment in Neuss, Germany while I was making tea in the kitchen after he had arrived that day for a two-week Christmas visit. I turned around from the kettle and there was the beautiful ring. Patrick had actually designed the ring himself.”
