Movie: My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
Plot: Toula (Nia Vardalos) is a frumpy 30-year-old, working in her family’s Greek restaurant and living at home with her Greek-centric parents. After having an early mid-life crisis, she returns to school, commences a career and starts to put some effort into her appearance. Enter Ian (John Corbett), a kind, handsome and accomplished man with one major flaw: he’s not Greek. Toula and Ian become engaged and what follows is, you guessed it: a “big, fat, Greek wedding.”
Why we love it: Toula’s loud and pushy family, especially her Windex-toting father Gus (Michael Constantine), make brides everywhere proud of their (overly) helpful families.
