Movie: The Princess Bride (1987)
Plot: After the beautiful Buttercup (Robin Wright) falls in love with poor farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes), Westley goes on a fortune-seeking journey and disappears for five years. Buttercup believes her betrothed dead and agrees to marry the evil Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). But, disguised as a pirate, Westley returns in hopes of regaining his darling’s heart.
Why we love it: While this movie is full of laugh-out-loud moments, the tale of love at the centre of the story is truly touching, reminding us of what weddings are all about. Plus, the supporting cast in the movie, played by such notables as Billy Crystal and Andre the Giant add loads of extra character to the flick!
