Movie: Muriel’s Wedding (1994)
Plot: In this Australian comedy, Muriel (Toni Collette) is a bored 20-something-year-old, who is obsessed with ABBA and getting married. Confused about where she is heading in life, she decides to take a tropical trip, where she meets a crazy friend (Rachel Griffiths) and undergoes an identity crisis. Things start to look up for Muriel after she meets her ideal man, but upon closer inspection, maybe her lifelong aspirations aren’t what she always hoped for.
Why we love it: This is definitely not your typical wedding flick, but we love that it shows that the true importance of a wedding is about finding that special someone—even if that’s yourself!
