While honeymooning in the South Pacific, I marveled at the soft, hydrated and glowing skin of Polynesian woman. What was their secret? Luckily, I stumbled across the answer while shopping in a local market. I was even more thrilled to discover it came in a teeny bottle I could pack in my suitcase. The secret is monoi oil and Tahitians have been using this ancient beauty ingredient for centuries on their skin and hair.

What is it? Monoi oil is created by macerating the blossom of the Tahitian Tiare flower in refined coconut oil. The coconut oil has to be extracted from mature coconuts gathered from the Cocas Nucifera trees growing in the coral soil in the geographic area of French Polynesia.

What’s it good for? Monoi oil is used as a healing property for everything from wounds to eczema. It’s also amazing as a sweet-smelling moisturizer for your skin, or as a deep hydrating hair conditioner. Your skin and hair will glow!

Luckily, you don’t have to travel all the way to Tahiti to get your hands on this ancient beauty secret. Get your own gorgeous glow for your wedding day with these six monoi infused products.

1. Monoi Nourishing Hair Mask by Fruits and Passion, $20 at Fruits and Passion stores.
