About the Couple
Bride: Sara Charlton
Groom: Mike Howe
How they met: “We first noticed each other in Horror Film class at McGill University,” says Sara. “But we never officially met until a friend finally introduced us on the dance floor at a local retro bar.”
Engagement story: “After spending six months apart while Mike taught English in Taiwan, we headed up to the family cottage for a romantic weekend,” recalls the couple. “One evening by the bonfire, he said he had a surprise for me, but I had to go find it in the woods near the cottage,” says Sara. “Because it was dark, he said I should wear a headlamp, to which I staunchly refused (he knows how silly I feel wearing one!). After a lengthy squabble, I eventually sought out the surprise sans headlamp to discover a bottle of champagne and a Birks box behind a nearby rock!” she exclaims. “He asked ‘will you marry me’ while I stood there in disbelief and nodded my head yes. Caught up in hugs and tears, it wasn’t until minutes later I actually opened the box to see my gorgeous ring!”
