Patricia Kliewer and Corey Scott, July 29, 2007, Burnaby. By Roseanne Dela Rosa
About the Couple
Bride: Patricia Christina Kliewer
Groom: Corey Christopher Lee Scott
Occupations: Patricia is a secretary to a cancer specialist/surgeon and Corey is a manager at a lumber mill.
How they met: They met in high school, and have been best friends ever since.
Fave date: One summer weekend a couple of years ago Corey took Patricia to go see one of their favourite bands, Radiohead, at UBC in Vancouver. They brought blankets and laid on the big field while the sun was setting, listening to the band play. As the band was playing, there were 30 or 40 Canadian geese flying right over the stage. Patricia remembers being so happy that night. They also ate gelato afterwards—Patricia’s favourite end to any date.
What attracted her to him: Corey’s blue eyes. If they ever have kids, Patricia hopes they get his.
What attracted him to her: In Corey’s words—her booty.
Engagement: Corey had shown the ring to his family one night at dinner before Patricia arrived. They were trying to convince him to hide it in the potato salad! But Corey is a romantic, and he knew that Patricia would prefer a proposal that was private and intimate, so the family managed to keep quiet about it. The next weekend Corey said that he wanted to take Patricia downtown. They walked around and held hands and did some shopping. Corey suggested they go for a walk down to the seawall. They came to a bench and Corey asked Patricia to sit down. He started talking, and then suddenly took the box out of his pocket and got down on one knee and asked Patricia to marry him. Patricia immediately started crying, hugged him and said yes.
The Wedding Day
Wedding date: Sunday, July 29, 2007
Guests: 125
Wedding theme: “We decided on tones of yellow and light grey. I wanted an outdoor, casual but elegant summer wedding.”
Her best moment: “Waking up and realizing that today was the big day that I had waited so long for!”
Advice to others: Don’t get into (too much) debt. You can rationalize spending a heck of a lot of money by saying this is “your day.” Pick three things that are the most important aspects of your wedding and splurge on these. Be reasonable about everything else. Also, a great photographer can make the wedding. Always pick a good one!
Wedding song: “Across the Universe” by Rufus Wainwright.
Fave wedding gift: “My pink food processor from my Mom. Corey may think differently.”
Most unexpected moment: “I accidentally mooned the whole groom’s party and other bystanders on Granville Island on a busy Sunday afternoon. During pictures, our photographer asked me to run down the street and do a little twirl. Well, I didn’t know how far up the dress would go. Some of the best pictures we have from the day are of the wedding party’s reaction to my assets. Sean (one of the groomsmen) is literally falling over laughing!”
Best surprise: “The sun coming out for pictures when we got to Hart House. The lake was sparkling.”
Fave wedding detail: “Probably the cake stand with all the cupcakes. And whoever was mysteriously refilling it!”
What made his day: “The food.”
Honeymoon: “We took the first week after the wedding to settle down and get unpacked (and take a newlywed IKEA shopping spree!). I surprised Corey with a quick two-night trip up to Whistler. Then on the Sunday we were off to the Mayan Riviera for a week.”
The day in three words: So much fun!
