Louise and Ben enjoy a Tiffany-inspired wedding in Vancouver, British Columbia. By Roseanne Dela Rosa
About the Couple
Bride: Louise Sung Ha Kim
Groom: Benjamin James Laggui
Occupations: Louise is a lawyer and Ben is a senior business analyst.
How they met: They met on Labour Day weekend through some mutual friends. Both of them believe that the other made the first move.
Fave date: Their first date. Louise (who loves food) threw away cookies and cream ice cream to impress Ben. Louise has never let Ben forget that.
What attracted him to her: She was pretty and she made everybody around her smile. Ben also noticed that she liked to talk a lot. Ben likes to talk a lot, too, but Louise really likes talking.
What attracted her to him: His good looks and his charm.
Engagement story: Labour Day weekend (Sept 2, 2006), six years from when they first met. Ben proposed to Louise at a bridge in Queen Elizabeth Park and poured his heart out to her. Before he could even get all the words out, Louise suddenly said “yes.” Ben looked up, smiled at Louise and replied, “I haven’t asked you yet.”
Words they live by: Life is so much better when Louise is smiling.
The Wedding Day
Wedding date: September 1, 2007
Guests: 220
Motif: Blue, brown and beautiful.
Her best moment: Seeing Ben’s reaction when I walked down the aisle with my dad (he was crying!).
His best moment: Watching the large wooden doors of the church open and seeing Louise come through and walk down the aisle. The moment was grand and intense; I remember thinking “Wow, she is so beautiful.” And then “Oh, shoot, I think I’m crying.”
What they would do differently: We wish that we had asked the kitchen to pack us a doggy bag because we didn’t have a lot of time to enjoy the food at our wedding. We still get a bit jealous when people tell us how good the food tasted.
Advice to others: It is helpful to do a dry run with the wedding dress, hair and makeup before the big day. I’m so glad I did a bridal shoot a couple of days before our wedding. I ended up making some adjustments to my hair, makeup and dress so that it felt perfect for the wedding.
Wedding song: “You say it best when you say nothing at all” by Alison Krauss. We first heard this song in Mexico and I really liked it, but I didn’t really listen to the words. Ben likes to joke around and hum the song to me when I am talking too much. He gets in trouble but we both end up laughing.
Fave gift: The watch that Louise’s parents gave Ben and the diamond tennis bracelet that Ben’s parents gave Louise.
Fave wedding detail: Our engagement photos and video, which were showcased at the reception.
Most unexpected moment: Ben, his groomsman, his best man, one of the photographers and one of the wedding sponsors were in a car accident on their way to the church ceremony. They had to leave their car, but the person who hit their car drove them to the church in time.
Best surprise: It is a tie between finding out that 220 of the 221 guests who RSVP’d to the wedding attended the reception, and the cute moment when our flower girl and ring bearer dropped the plate of arras (traditional Spanish coins) during the Church ceremony.
What made her day: Our dance floor was packed with people until the lights came on at the end of the night.
Honeymoon: Wailea, Maui. We loved the food, we saw the sunrise at the top of Haleakela, and we got to see turtles. Oh, and Louise shopped…a lot.
The day in three words: Beautiful, blissful and blessing.
