About the Couple
Bride: Katie McLean
Groom: Weston Hinchcliffe
How they met: They met through mutual friends at a New Year’s Eve bash and instantly hit it off. A midnight kiss sealed the deal!
Engagement story: “After seven years together, I still managed to surprise my bride-to-be,” smiles Weston. “Three days into a trip to Mexico, we headed out on an adventure excursion. We snorkelled in a cenote (a body of water within a cave) for what seemed like a lifetime, and I couldn’t keep my hand off my leg where the ring was floating around in my pocket. I considered proposing there but something told me to wait. We made our way to a rappelling tower and it was then that I peered down into the cave and made my decision. After I descended, it was Kate’s turn to rappel. Once she got close to the ground, and I could tell where she was going to land, I knelt down and she landed right in front of me. With her back to me, and still oblivious to my presence, Kate got unhooked. When she finally turned around and nearly tripped on me, she asked me what I was doing. While bringing the ring out from behind my back, I said, ‘I love you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, and will you marry me?’ Kate’s initial responses were something to the effect of: ‘Are you serious?’ and ‘Oh my God,’ at which point one of our group members yelled out, ‘Is that a yes?’ and Kate finally exclaimed, ‘Yes!’"
