WHERE
1985: It was all about the kitchen when you and your mom registered at department stores and china shops like The Bay, Eaton’s, William Ashley’s, Bowring and Birks.

HOT ITEMS
1985: Dinnerware, crystal and silverware were the most popular gifts to receive. The two poplar china patterns were Carlyle and Biltmore, both gold-banded with ornate blue botanical designs by Royal Doulton. Crystal stemware was chosen for special dining occasions and gifts revolved around silver-plated casseroles and vases, and liquor decanter sets.
