About the Couple
Bride: Karen Melnychuk
Groom: Kenneth Atkinson
How they met: A mutual contact. Karen’s co-worker and Kenneth’s friend introduced the couple. After months of attempts to set the two up, Karen finally agreed to meet Kenneth when he randomly text messaged her, asking her to meet him during a group outing at a local pub.  As Karen says, “Going against what I would usually do, I left my girlfriend’s house and decided to go and meet this mystery man.” After meeting a few weeks later at another friend’s party, the two planned a first date; thus beginning their beautiful relationship.
Engagement story: “We had planned a trip to Tofino on Vancouver Island as a late one-year anniversary celebration,” tells Karen. “Kenny arranged all the details of our trip, as well as a few more that I didn't know about! Once we arrived at Chesterman Beach Bed and Breakfast, the owner came out to greet us and took us to see where we would be staying. I was so overcome with the beauty of the ocean and the entire place that I started to tear up with sheer happiness! After some light conversation, we were given our key to the suite and told to go and check things out and get settled. I walked up the steps first and was blown away when I opened the door. I saw rose petals all over the bed, huge flower arrangements and a card with my name on it. Still having no idea what was happening, I went over and opened the card that Kenny had written to me. After I finished reading it and wiping away my tears, I moved to thank him for writing such amazing words to me, but when I turned around, I was shocked to find him on one knee, holding my dream ring out towards me. He proposed and I said ‘Yes’—four times!”
