The Wedding Day:
Wedding date: June 14
Guests: 70
Wedding theme: Pink
Her best moment: “Standing inside the front door of McLean House, about to walk down the aisle. My dad beside me, looking out at the guests and seeing all of my favourite people together, and then seeing Vavek standing at the front smiling. I kept thinking, ‘Oh my God, this is perfect, it’s really happening!’”
His best moment: “When I first saw her walking down the aisle. She was just so damn beautiful.”
Advice to others: “It’s the little details that really make a wedding special. Personalize your day as much as you can. It makes it more special and memorable for you and your guests. Be creative! To personalize our wedding, we decided to serve breakfast for dinner (it’s our favourite meal!) instead of your standard chicken or beef. We also created newspapers with ridiculous stories about our families and friends for guests to read while they waited for the ceremony to begin. We had sparklers for everyone to light at midnight, a huge candy bar and a completely custom-made music playlist.”
Wedding song: “We had two songs, both of which were incredibly meaningful and important to us. Our first song was ‘Heaven Must Have Sent You’ by the Elgins. We played it as we had our first kiss after our ceremony; then we walked down the aisle together as husband and wife. It’s my song to Vavek. The second song was for our first dance. We chose ‘Love Song’ by 311. It’s such a romantic, sweet song with a modern sound. The lyrics say exactly what we feel in our hearts—they are perfect.”
Best surprise: “Vavek is Polish, but we hadn’t really incorporated much of his background into our wedding. However, during dancing, our two MCs surprised everyone by galloping into the room wearing traditional Polish polka outfits, complete with braids and feathered hats, and started twirling around doing a full-on polka dance! And to our complete shock, almost all of our guests joined in.”
What made her day: Seeing all of our guests having such a good time. People kept coming up to us saying that it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to, which meant the world to us.
The day in three words: Love, joy and happiness
