Amanda Blakley and Adam Moffat, October 18, 2008, New York. By Roseanne Dela Rosa
About the Couple
Bride: Amanda Blakley
Groom: Adam Moffat
Occupations: Adam is a PR manager and Amanda is the co-founder of The Society, “a culture club for the creative class.”
How they met: At a birthday party for a mutual friend.
Favourite date: A surprise birthday weekend in Los Angeles.
What attracted her to him: “His mean tennis game. Plus, he made me laugh.”
What attracted him to her: “Her green eyes.”
Engagement story: Adam and Amanda were down in New York for the launch of The Society N.Y.C. After a great launch and a fun weekend with friends, Adam stole Amanda away for a late brunch at Tavern on the Green. After brunch they went outside to the courtyard to take a few photos. Adam was so nervous and scared that instead of saying something wildly poetic and romantic, he told her how much he loved her and wanted to be with her always, and then he dropped to one knee and showed her the ring. She was shocked and still hadn’t said yes even after putting the ring on her finger!
Words they live by: Take the time to appreciate life’s special moments, whether it is sharing a laugh, hanging out or exploring new places. Life moves fast so you need to make an effort to savour time spent together. Celebrate your partner for who they are—quirks and all.
The Wedding Day:
Wedding date: October 18, 2008
Guests: 60
Wedding theme: Catskill formal
Her best moment: “Walking into the barn where the dinner party and dancing were held, and seeing and feeling the energy of a room full of all of our closest friends and family. It was truly magical!”
His best moment: “Standing under the homemade chuppah (Jewish wedding altar) constructed by my two best friends out of reclaimed birch logs they found in the forest surrounding the Inn and watching my wife walk into the room.”
What would you have done differently: “Not a thing.”
Advice you would give to other couples that are getting married:
“Try not to let the planning and details of the day stress you out. When you’re in the moment the only thing you need is your closest friends and family members there with you. Everything else is secondary.”
Wedding song: “‘Green Eyes’ by Coldplay. It always reminds me of Amanda and the lyrics describe how I feel about her.”
The day in three words: Romantic, intimate and wild.
Favourite wedding gift: “Karaoke machine from my business partners. They presented it to us on the Friday night after everyone had returned to the Inn from a pizza and beer dinner at the local pub. We set it up in the clubhouse and sang at the top of our lungs until the wee hours of the morning!”
Most unexpected moment: “How well my friends and Adam’s friends got along and hearing camp songs being sung a cappella around the fire pit until the wee hours of the morning.”
Best surprise of the day: “Amanda surprised me with a beautiful pair of cufflinks. I will have them forever, and every time I wear them they will remind me of how special our wedding weekend was.”
Honeymoon: “We did a 'mini-moon' post-wedding spending three days in New York City followed by a three-week tour of Asia—Hong Kong, Thailand and Vietnam.”
Favourite wedding details: “Dinner station menu (lobster mac & cheese, mini roast beef sandwiches, potato jacket bar, soup station: blue cheese/cauliflower soup, midnight dessert bar and s’mores station with outdoor fire ring. Best wedding food ever! T-shirts we had made for all our guests that said ‘I heart NY’ on the front, and on the nape of the neck ‘Adam and Amanda Got Hitched’ with our wedding date. We have a great group photo that was taken in the gym with all of our guests sporting their tees.”
What made her day: “Perfect weather, good friends, loved ones and good food.”
What made his day: “Having our closest friends and family join us at what was our special, secret place to help us celebrate. It was surreal to see everyone in that setting.”
