About the Couple
Bride: Judith Manzano
Groom: Mark Vicente
How they met: “Of all places, we met in an Internet chat room. Over the course of a few months we learned that we lived in the same city and knew the same people. We had never discussed anything private, considering we were always in group discussions. When I got a job at the same place, in the exact same department, doing the exact same thing as Mark, I knew it was fate,” Judith concludes. “Until we began working together, we had never seen one another in person or done anything other than chat on the Internet. Working together was not what I expected. At work, he’d completely ignore me—as a matter of fact, it was almost like he avoided me! On the Internet, however, he was chatty and was a completely different person. Shy as he was, he began sitting beside me during coffee breaks, talking to me more in person and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Engagement story: “Mark had planned this for many months in collaboration with our best man and his wife (my bridesmaid). After many months of coaxing, arranging with my mom to watch my daughter, scheming with our friends and planning the whole entire thing, we were on our way to Las Vegas. Only a few hours after landing, we were making our way down the Las Vegas strip. They had devised a plan to have our best man take pictures of me at key Vegas landmarks calling them ‘Vegas Virgin Pictures.’ This was the best ploy to keep me occupied while they schemed. Eventually, Mark and I ended up on the bridge of the Venetian Hotel. Here is what was said (of course, paraphrased):
Mark: You know I love you right...? (This is usually followed by something negative like “You know I love you right? Well I blew my whole paycheque.”)
Judith: Yes...so what did you do? We’re in Vegas…do you have to tell me now?
Mark: I’ve been keeping this secret from you for months...
Judith: [thinking] You have GOT to be kidding me! He’s going to tell me he’s cheating on me...here? Now? Ok, we’re in Vegas—just spit it out.
Mark: Well I need to tell you before someone else tells you...
Judith: [thinking] I can’t believe he’s going to tell me this HERE! Ok, just tell me!
Mark: *pulls out a black box and places it in front of me* I’ve had this for a few months now…
Judith: [dumbfounded and confused] What?
Mark: *opens the box with a huge smile on his face* Judith: *hand covers my mouth as the tears begin. He stares at me for what feels like forever*
Mark: Should I get on my knees now?
Judith: *crying tears of joy, I shake head yes*
Mark: Will you marry me?
