The Wedding Day
Wedding date: July 14, 2010
Guests: 24
His best moment: “When Andrea walked down the aisle I started to tear up,” explains Kevin. “It’s a completely predictable thing to do but I had been waiting about 30 minutes on the beach while she made her way from the room so all the anxiety just came out in tears when I saw her—she was beautiful.”
Her best moment: “When Kevin read his vows it blew me away,” recalls Andrea with a smile. “He usually hates giving cards or writing sentiments and had pretended to be really casual about the vows. They were so thoughtful and kind that it made me fall in love with him all over again.”
Favourite wedding detail: “Apart from having our family in our ceremony I loved that all the decor was my own. I spent months designing everything from the starfish chair decorations to the crystal tree centrepieces. When they were all up it looked beautiful and all my hard work paid off,” recalls Andrea.
Wedding song: “Stay With You” by John Legend. “This song had always been a favourite of mine before I met Kevin and I would play it and hope that I would be able to play the song one day with someone I loved,” recalls Andrea. “Then one day about two weeks before the wedding Kevin and I were in the car and it came on the radio. We had been going back and forth about a wedding song and this one had slipped my mind. As soon as we heard it on the radio we both looked at each other and said it was going to be our wedding song.”
Theme: Simple beach wedding
Reception: “The wedding was everything I dreamt about. Even though the day started out with thunder and rain, we held hope that we would get married on the beach under clear skies. The rain finally stopped just before the ceremony and we were able to get married with the sand beneath our toes and the sky overhead,” shares the couple. “Our children were our best man and maid of honour and we read vows that included them as well. It felt like it was a new beginning for our new family.”
Favours: “The ladies received handmade fans bought in Cyprus while the gents received monogrammed handkerchiefs,” explains Andrea.
Best surprise of the day: “Kevin’s thoughtful vows,” shares Andrea.
