How they met: “We met while we were travelling in Sydney, Australia. Daniel is from Scotland and was working at the Internet café next to my hostel. He set me up with a computer and instantly caught my eye. We went out a few nights later and Daniel impressed me with his ability to do a Tequila Suicide. We were inseparable after that!” shares Shannon.
Engagement story: “We had been living together in Scotland for three years and dating for five, so I was ready to get married,” Shannon recounts. “I’m also a bit of an event planner, so I already knew what I wanted on my big day and I was ready to put the wheels in motion! I kept teasing Daniel and asking when he was going to make an honest woman out of me. Then, when we were travelling in Bruges, Belgium, Daniel finally popped the question in our romantic hotel room. There were church bells going off across the street and Daniel commented on them sounding like wedding bells. I said I didn’t care because they weren’t our wedding bells and he said he had a gift for me. He pulled out a letter from my parents saying they would be thrilled for him to propose to me—Daniel had written to them the year before and asked for their permission—as well as a picture of the ring, which was waiting for me when I got home! It was so personal, lovely and romantic. It was exactly what I wanted: a beautiful, intimate moment! We shed a few tears and called our family to share the exciting news!”
