Arriving in Kauai, Hawaii’s aptly named “garden island,” is like setting foot in Eden itself, a pristine paradise untouched by the ravages of time. Indeed, the island’s idyllic beauty has captivated countless filmmakers, and it appears in movies such as South Pacific, Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark to name a few. It’s not hard to see why Kauai has repeatedly been chosen as the perfect setting for action and romance on the silver screen. Some of the natural wonders you can expect to enjoy on-island include: verdant mountains crowned with clouds, clear cerulean waves caressing white sandy beaches, unspoilt rivers meandering through lush rainforests, majestic waterfalls and vibrant rainbows that appear at a moment’s notice as if by magic. Needless to say, Kauai’s inhabitants are passionate about preserving and protecting their enchanting surroundings. “Aloha aina” or love and connection to the land is a concept that runs deep in Kauai, one that can be traced to Hawaii’s very first settlers, the ancient Polynesians. And because tourism is so crucial to the island’s well-being, visitors are also encouraged to engage in the practice of caring for the land. From choosing eco-friendly activities to participating in ongoing environmental initiatives, there are numerous ways for you to get involved during your stay.
